Engineer (Northampton)

JOB DESCRIPTION: We are a small company in business for over 40 years and have customers throughout the world. The machines we work with range from power generators, turbines, compressors, to ships. We manufacture grounding brushes of our own design and provide consulting services. The work we do can be challenging: it deals with both electrical and mechanical phenomena; the products we manufacture are difficult to make because the best materials for the job are not easy to work with, our quality requirements are stringent, and our customers cannot have their machines out of service.

The position: We are changing the way our products are manufactured and we are looking for someone to help develop better methods for integrating design and manufacture. We rely heavily on CNC machines, design software, and process automation.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Mechanical design - mostly electro-mechanical components and assemblies,

CAD modeling (specifically parametric modeling) of components and assemblies,

Programming of CNC machines using our CAM software,

Machining operations - feeds, speeds, high speed machining operations, and manufacturing automation,

Electric circuits - good understanding of the physics of how electricity flows, resistance, impedance, capacitance,

Software - spreadsheets, some programming in languages such as C, python, or Java,

Collaborate with Production Manager on manufacturing schedule and inventory management to ensure smooth workflow and assembly,

Confer with sales, supervisor, and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information about orders,

Create products, process POs for suppliers, review BOMs, and monitor manufacturing orders in the ERP system,

Implement QA guidelines and policies,

Promote and follow all safety policies.
