Description Robert Half is hiring a Network Engineer for a Higher Education client in the Boston area. This is a direct-hire position working remotely 4 days a week. The role will report to the Director of IT Infrastructure and will install, configure, manage, and troubleshoot the college’s multi-campus routed network infrastructure, data center networks, critical network services, and disaster recovery networking. The big focus of this role is Layer 3 networking. They use Juniper Networks, Palo Alto firewalls, and Aruba wireless.Your responsibilities:● Plan, install, configure, and manage all campus network components, primarily as it relates to Layer 3. Design, configure, and manage campus core and distribution networking layers, and maintain network topology and firewall policies to improve reliability and strengthen security. Document campus network topology and fiber plant.● Build and maintain critical network services such as DNS, DHCP, and NTP● Manage data center and core network environments, including cross-connects to ISPs and remote sites.● Deploy and manage network firewalls, switches, and routers. Configure and manage BGP peering with content delivery networks and ISPs, and peering between the college’s data center locations.● Design, configure, and maintain network architecture for the disaster recovery environment.● Plan, install, configure, and manage various campus network monitoring systems, including monitoring for bandwidth usage, availability, network automation, health assessment, and system security.● Serve as partner and backup to Network Infrastructure Administrator by managing aspects of the campus Layer 2 network, the wireless infrastructure, network authentication, systems administration (as it relates to the campus network), and hardware life cyclingRequirements ● 5-10 years of previous experience in networking required● Extensive experience with Juniper networking equipment or a similar required● Certification in Palo Alto firewall configuration and management or similar preferred● Certification related to designing and troubleshooting large scale enterprise wireless networks preferred● Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required● Knowledge of Linux and Windows servers, and the ability to troubleshoot network connections on client systems, including Windows, Mac OS, Android, and iOS● Knowledge of Splunk and Prometheus or Nagios, or other network monitoring systems● Good written communications skills and the ability to create systems documentationTechnology Doesn't Change the World, People Do.® Robert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
