Job AnnouncementEstablishes, develops, evaluates and promotes programs for children from three to 12 years of age in order to best meet the needs of the youth population of Small District 1-A of Dranesville. Implements and executes youth programs for the McLean Community Center, Camp McLean, and The Old Firehouse Center. Serves as a liaison between youth groups and the McLean Community Center. Duties include:
Creates, implements, and supervises events and programs for youth and families.
Identifies potential programs for youth and for families.
Coordinates overall plan and organizes Camp McLean, a six-week licensed summer program for youth ages three to ten years.
Interviews, hires, trains and schedules seasonal and part-time staff.
Ensures publicity information for all youth events is distributed in a timely manner.
Develops and recommends annual budget for all youth events including Camp McLean.
Keeps track of all program expenditures and revenue.
Drafts purchasing requests and performance contracts for youth events and programs.
Authorizes purchases requests and invoices for payment.
Determines supply and equipment needs.
Obtains and maintains the state of Virginia licensure for the yearly operation of Camp McLean.
Drive 12 passenger van for program participants.
Schedule: To accommodate various programs, occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work is required.
Illustrative DutiesGeneral DutiesPlans, coordinates, schedules, supervises, and evaluates the operations and maintenance of the assigned facility or facilities;Plans, schedules, and conducts specialized on-site staff training;Completes and submits various financial, administrative, and statistical reports;Adheres to revenue and expense limits, goals, and guidelines for specialized areas of supervision;Inspects facilities and grounds for safety hazards and operational deficiencies, recommends improvements, and initiates corrective measures;Responds to public inquiries and concerns;Participates in the development and implementation of community outreach plans to target underserved populations and to increase overall program participation;Analyzes and evaluates service in terms of individual and community needs;Performs administrative functions at a facility, including budget preparation, recruitment of volunteer staff, maintenance of records necessary to the operation and evaluation of center programs, and report preparation;ProgrammingPlans, organizes, supervises, and schedules specialized activities and programs sponsored by the park, recreation, teen, community, or senior center in cooperation with residents and related agencies;Schedules, coordinates, and evaluates class, camp, and tour programs held at parks, centers, schools, government facilities, and private vendor locations;Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation center and /or park management;
Knowledge of fiscal record keeping and inventory procedures;
Ability to use a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment;
Ability to direct and coordinate the work of subordinate staff and volunteers;
Ability to plan, develop, and administer recreation programs or community activities;
Ability to maintain effective relationships with employees and citizen groups;
Ability to prepare a variety of administrative reports;
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Valid driver's license (Required at the time of application)
CPR (Required within 3 months)
First Aid (Required within 3 months)
AED (Required within 3 months)
Medication Administration Training (MAT) (Required within 3 months)
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Pursuant to Virginia Department of Education licensing requirements, the appointee must be at least 21 years of age.

The appointee to the position will be required to complete the following to the satisfaction of the employer:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor’s degree in elementary education, recreation, nursing or another child-related field.
Two years of experience in creating, planning and implementing programs for youth and for families.
Has experience in working with teens and youth with cognitive and physical disabilities.
At least one year of experience in the preparation and maintenance of program budgets.
One year of experience with processing and/or overseeing cash management, procurement cards, and purchase orders.
One year of supervisory experience is preferred.
Knowledge of Virginia Department of Education licensing requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Per Virginia licensing requirements, must be at least 21 years of age.
Position requires physical mobility and sensory awareness sufficient to observe and direct staff performance, activities of minors, facility operation and maintenance.
Ability to operate motor vehicle.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
