Job Description

The Chemistry Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing analytical methods, operating equipment/analytical instruments, and managing sample registration and disposal.

Responsibilities include:

  • Adhere to all Health and Safety requirements, and actively contribute to an environment in support of safety.
  • Adhere to the highest Qualitystandards in laboratory operations, and operate in accordance with the laboratory Code of Conduct and applicable policies and procedures at any time.
  • Adhere to the housekeeping rules, keep the laboratory clean and tidy at all times and apply the highest efficiency standards.
  • Perform sample registration and disposal.
  • Perform routine analytical, physical tests and sample preparation.
  • Perform all the analysis assigned in the required time, including calculations.
  • Ensure correct methods and equipment/instrument procedures are used and adhered to.
  • Ensure that working solutions of chemical/media/reagents/cultures are prepared and maintained at appropriate quantities and quality.
  • Operate, calibrate and maintain equipment/instruments.
  • Notify the Laboratory Manager/Signatory of “out of specification” results or any other testing issues (e.g. retest required, equipment calibration failure etc.).
  • Set a good example regarding work ethics to other staff.
  • Manage laboratory materials to ensure efficient utilisation and minimal waste.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Laboratory Manager.

Qualifications

  • BSc /MSc Science degree in Chemistryor equivalent qualification; or significant laboratory experience.
  • At least three years' laboratory experience in a ISO17025commercial laboratory.
  • Experience in using different equipment/instrumental and sample preparation techniques.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, team player.
  • Flexible with great work ethics, motivated and enthusiastic to join a team of highly skilled very driven scientists, delivering with passion a new testing service to the Melbourne food industry.

Additional Information

This is a casual position for now, but can become a permanent position as we actively grow our business and expand our team.

This opportunity is only open to candidates who are eligible to work in Australia/New Zealand, and already have work rights or an appropriate working visa.
