The NCCU Department of Athletics places the highest priority on a quality academic and athletic experience as part of the overall education of student-athletes. The Department of Athletics seeks to strengthen the integration of the athletics program objectives with academic development objectives.Primary Purpose of PositionThe Head Football Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries within the University’s comprehensive sports medicine program. The Head Football Athletic Trainer provides coverage of the athletic training room and travels with athletic teams. The Head Football Athletic Trainer manages the care and prevention of athletic injuries, recognizes and manages injuries, oversees rehabilitation, evaluates sports injuries through independent judgment and discretion, and makes proper referrals of injuries as necessary.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesWorking knowledge of the physical training demands for various team and individual sports; ability to demonstrate communication skills necessary for dealing with student-athletes, coaching staff, and administrative personnel.Minimum Education/ExperienceBachelor’s degree, preferably in physical therapy or health science, and 1 – 3 years of related experience at the collegiate level.Experience: Some medical experience preferred but not required.Licenses or Certification required by Statute or RegulationCertificate/License: Must be NATA BOC certified and posses or be in the process of acquiring licensure, certification or registration from the state.
