DescriptionBankruptcy Attorney – Pennsylvania Orlans PC, an innovative default law firm representing servicers and secured creditors in multiple jurisdictions, is seeking an Associate Bankruptcy Attorney to support our bankruptcy practice in the state of Pennsylvania. We are flexible with training and developing a new Bankruptcy attorney for this opportunity, ideally we are looking for an attorney with prior bankruptcy experience. Candidate must be barred in Maryland and admitted to Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Courts. This position is accountable to develop and share subject matter expertise with clients, partners and members of the law firm; review bankruptcy documents, including Chapter 7, Chapter 11, Chapter 12 and Chapter 13 cases; attend hearings; and practice law as member of a team in our collaborative law firm team environment.Major Roles with Accountabilities: Bankruptcy Subject Matter Expert/Resource : Develop and share subject matter expertise with internal and external clients to move files and achieve client goals. In this role, the attorney is accountable to: Timely advise clients and staff on file-specific legal matters; Continuously improve and stay current with the law impacting our clients and our practice; Knowledge to assist the managing bankruptcy attorneys with training staff and/or clients; Knowledge to handle Chapter 7, Chapter 12, and Chapter 13 cases as they pertain to the role of secured creditors (both real and personal property); Basic knowledge of Chapter 11; Handle mid-level escalated/litigated matters with guidance of managing bankruptcy attorney; Acquire knowledge of underlying non-bankruptcy law and procedures, such as foreclosure and eviction, in the jurisdictions in which the attorney is admitted; Conduct PACER reviews to determine whether foreclosure or eviction may proceed; Assist other areas of practice with file-level issues regarding bankruptcy; Assist other practice areas in the firm when necessary.Legal Review/Proofer : Provide legal and compliance review of pleadings and documents necessary to achieve client objectives. In the role, the attorney is accountable to: Review and sign all documents regularly prepared (POCs MFRs NOPCs, etc.) within 24 to 48 hours of being presented for review; Ensure all pleadings and documents are in compliance with legal and client requirements; Provide feedback to processors on reasons for rejected pleadings, documents and identify opportunities for improvement.Bankruptcy Hearings Counsel : Prepare for and attend motion hearings on flat fee matters and represent clients in assigned contested matters that are billed hourly. In this role, the attorney is accountable to: Handle dockets assigned from managing bankruptcy attorney; Negotiate resolutions with opposing counsel when feasible; Manage schedule for attendance at assigned hearings and cases; Timely and adequate prepare for hearings; Attend all assigned hearings, or ensure that another attorney is adequately prepared to cover hearings when needed; Monitor bankruptcy ECF receipts for dockets handled, timely escalate matters to client when escalated pleadings are filed; Become familiar with local rules and procedures, as well as judges in which the attorney regularly appears; Correspond with opposing counsel and clients regarding all matters in files assigned to the attorney; Comply with client requirements on all aspects of case movement, including communications, escalations and hearing results; Work with paralegals and other firm resources to meet court deadlines; Advance client interest efficiently to achieve desired results as soon as feasible.Oversight Partner : Oversee, educate, and collaborate with non-attorney staff in compliance with legal, ethical and client requirements to achieve client objectives. In this role, the attorney is accountable to: Develop and maintain effective working relationships with members of the law firm, processors and eTitle; Oversee the progress of files to milestone targets; Provide legal oversight to staff regarding legal and process requirements and the preparation of bankruptcy documents; Provide oversight of bankruptcy staff at file-level with an ability to explain legal concepts and operational processes created and distributed by the managing bankruptcy attorney.Requirements: Juris Doctorate in Law Pennsylvania Bar in good standing Open to training and developing a new Bankruptcy attorney for this opportunity, ideally we are looking for an attorney with prior bankruptcy experienceCompensation & Benefits: Orlans offers a competitive market-based salary, work/life balance and benefits including medical/dental/vision/RX, Short and Long-term disability, paid-time off, 401(k) Plan with company match.Orlans is an Equal Opportunity Employer
