The moments we share in the air and on the ground with our customers and our colleagues make United a special place to work and a great way to fly, together.Key Responsibilities:The Flight Standards Portfolio Management team serves the Flight Operations divisions of United Airlines in providing trained and qualified professionals who flexibly use United's Envision Design Build Activate (EDBA) framework and other applicable project methodologies to deliver assigned portfolios, programs, and projects on time, within scope, and of the highest quality. This team works cross-functionally to deliver initiatives with business and enabling teams to deliver benefits for our customers, frontline employees, and other supporting groups. Effective execution in this role is critical to achieving United's goal of demonstrating Portfolio Management & Project Delivery Capability as a Strategic Enabler.on Every project, with Every Team, and Every day.The Senior Portfolio Manager will manage and direct project managers and support teams to meet the strategic objectives of assigned portfolio(s). Initiatives can be tactical or strategic, cross-functional, and include, but are not limited to, the development or implementation of proposed safety, performance, and efficiency initiatives. Management of these initiatives should include robust portfolio and project governance, risk mitigations/controls, scope control, schedule management, resource management, and partner management.

Provides matrixed direction, leadership, and management to all project and or portfolio collaborators

Coach, guide, train project team members and other PMs on EDBA, PMLC and related artifacts and deliverables

Directly or indirectly deliver high-quality artifacts, deliverables, and outcomes through all phases of PMLC including Envision, Design, Build, and Activate as needed to realize measurable business results

Ensures proper scope elicitation and handles scope change, communications, issues, and risks

Facilitates understanding and coordination of organizational change management to ensure change is adopted and implemented cross-functionally

Assists team members in researching operational and performance data to provide statistics, trends, and reporting that informs leadership steering and decision-making

Uses project management controls, such as governance, Earned Value Management (EVM), chance control process, and risk/issue mitigation for projects involving multi-departmental customers to deliver project and portfolio strategic objectives

Evaluates and reports timely updates to relevant customers and committees

Establishes and leads project portfolio management (PPM) processes, methods, and tools that provide leadership the necessary portfolio visibility and control

Bachelor's degree or undergraduate degree in business, technical, or aviation related field required

7+ years work experience, or demonstrated relevant experience

5+ years leading projects, or demonstrated confirmed experience

Demonstrated successful project delivery using fundamentals of PMBOK practices/methodologies

Successful and proven experience in handling portfolios with multiple large, complex programs, projects, and related operations and activities across multiple functions

Experience leading and mentoring project management staff from entry level to highly experienced and qualified personnel

Experience presenting, escalating, and providing solutions to senior leadership

Experience facilitating and developing process/system mapping and analysis

Experience coordinating and leading program operations through adherence to project management methodologies guiding impactful projects/programs as assigned

Serve as a change agent driving adoption across the organization

Experience in a lead role responsible to provide direction, prioritization and structure to enable efficient implementation of assigned projects and initiatives

Experience in a lead role responsible for advising the implementation of strategic planning, leading and directing all aspects of a major, diverse, and highly sophisticated programs impacting the operation

Providing specialized technical aviation knowledge or equivalent, program management expertise, discernment, and leadership skills to facilitate the identification and management of all interdependencies and areas of risk

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

Master's degree or advanced degree preferred

Aviation related subject area degree preferred (or) related experience at a large 14 CFR Part 121 airline

Project Management (PMI) Certification

Lean Six Sigma certification

5+ years demonstrated successful execution using SDLC, PMLC, DMAIC or DFSS methodology

3+ years aviation or airline industry experience

UA Program Management framework (EDBA) and methodology (PMLC) and all policy, procedure, guidelines as applicable.

Proven successful execution using SDLC, PMLC, DMAIC or DFSS methodology
