DescriptionDescription Under the leadership of Council Member Angela Whitfield-Calloway and immediate supervision of the Chief of Staff, the Assistan t Community Liaison will work with the Community Relations Manager to assist with resolving daily constituent issues from the district office. They will also help r epresent the council member ’s office in interaction s with constituents, community leaders, offices of other elected officials and city departments. Assistant Community Liaison is also c harged with communicating to community as a representative of the council member at community meetings and other various events. They also p romote the legislative goals of the council member . Examples of DutiesThe position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Attend neighborhood organization, block club and community police meetings, which can be held during the day, evening or weekends.

Be responsible for setting up and breaking down the community resource table at community events.

Work with city departments & constituents to bring attention to prominent issues and concerns requiring action from various city departments.

Travel to sites across the city to research, photograph and compile citizen quality of life complaints for Council/City Department review and action.

Record and track into office database all constituent’s issues to make sure they are resolved in a timely matter.

Must be computer literate and high level of familiarity with the Microsoft Office software suite .

Be on call for all functions, including nights and weekends.

Conduct and participate in door to door canvasing operations.

Engage comfortably with the diverse population of Detroit residents in our neighborhoods.

Minimum QualificationsExperience and Skills

2 + year s of organizing experience, with demonstrated results, desired

Experience engaging multiple stakeholders in collaborative processes for collective impact.

Demonstrated commitment to economic empowerment, racial justice and good governance.

Tech savvy. Must have experience with current digital organizing and communications tools, including but not limited to social media.

Experience with political organizing is a strong plus.

In depth knowledge of issues impacting City of Detroit residents and respect for communities and diverse cultures is highly preferred.

Strong written command of the English language

Personal Qualifications

Must be punctual and have excellent time management skills.

Must be a people person with strong interpersonal skills.

Must believe in the importance of good government.

Self-starter who always has ideas on how to do things better.

Comfortable working closely and in person with residents of varying economic, political, racial and social backgrounds.

Results oriented and internally motivated to do a great job.

Must have reliable personal transportation.

A motivated individual who is passionate about a bright future for Detroit and the wellbeing of its residents.
