Position DescriptionThe Tacoma Police Department (TPD) is currently seeking candidates for a new position within Records & Information Management (RIM). Reporting directly to the RIM Administrator, the role of Police Digital Evidence & Records Support Analysts involves the comprehensive administration, management, analysis, and coordination of records and digital evidence for the Tacoma Police Department.Working under general supervision, Analysts will leverage advanced-level analytical and organizational skills to evaluate and manage complex, sensitive, and confidential records crucial to the operations of the Tacoma Police Department.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESDigital Evidence and Records Management:

Evaluate, analyze, catalog, and index digital evidence and other police records using advanced digital evidence management systems.

Ensure proper disposition and storage of records in compliance with established policies, best practices, and legal requirements.

Information Research and Reporting:

Respond to complex requests by conducting thorough research, compiling, analyzing, and verifying information and data to produce detailed reports.

Internal Support and Expertise:

Provide support, consultation, and technical expertise for internal workflows and processes within the police department.

External Liaison and Record Requests:

Act as a liaison between the Tacoma Police Department and external agencies, responding to requests for records.

Assist other City staff in responding to Public Disclosure Requests (PDR) by promptly providing requested records.

Policy Development:

Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to Police Records Management, ensuring alignment with industry standards.

Training and Communication:

Provide training sessions to other staff on Police Electronic Records Management policies and procedures.

Draft clear and concise communications related to police records, systems, processes, and procedures.

If you are ready to contribute to the efficient and effective management of records for the Tacoma Police Department, we invite you to apply for this exciting opportunity!QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in information science, library science or closely related field and four (4) years of professional experience working in records and information managementEquivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of educationLICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

Must successfully pass the non-commissioned police employee Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check and screening process, including but not limited to background investigation, polygraph test, fingerprinting and pre-employment drug test

Valid Washington State driver's license at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter

Some positions may require additional licenses and/or certifications

Knowledge & SkillsKnowledge of:

Revised Code of Washington (RCW) laws and requirements; specifically of Chapter 42.56, PUBLIC RECORDS ACT (PRA), along with Tacoma Police Department (TPD) and City regulations, policies, and procedures regarding records management.

Proficiency with data governance and compliance for PRA and agency redaction, disclosure, and protection requirements; digital preservation best practices strategies for electronic media and file types.

Skills to:

Critically analyze and interpret compliance of agency-wide policies and procedures regarding records management for electronic media and files

Strong attention to detail and accuracy with records materials concerning cataloging, indexing and organizing

Ability to maintain confidentiality of records containing sensitive information

Ability to write and understand SQL inquiries against database tools for validation and quality controls checks

This position is covered by a Labor Agreement between the City of Tacoma and Local 117. New employees must successfully complete a twelve-month probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification. Appointment is subject to passing a background check. For positions with the Tacoma Police Department and in support of Municipal Court staff, candidates must pass a Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS) background check and be able to maintain CJIS certification.
