Environmental Technician (Wastewater Treatment)

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Under the direction of a Manufacturing Manager, the Environmental Technician shall operate and maintain the facility's Effluent Treatment Systems within the required regulatory parameters. Perform hazardous waste operations and maintain plant chemical supplies. This position will also include running production processing equipment. Company provides work uniform,shoes and personal protective equipment (PPE).

The position is very physical, requiringa lot of manual labor for lifting and carrying materials up steps / ladder. This is a very detail-orientedjob. You will be provided a notebook on the first day, and expected to take notes to refer back to for specific processes and procedures. You’ll be expected to ask questions if you don’t understand tasks. You’re expected to show up on time every day, have a great work ethic, and be extremely safety minded not only for yourself but for others around you. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following; (Other duties may be assigned.)

Effluent ( Waste) Treatment Systems

Daily operation and maintenance of the Micro-Filtration Unit and Refinery Treatment Plants.

Maintain and calibrate systems instrumentation.

Perform chemical additions to the treatment plant and refinery wastewater.

Clean (empty) and operate Filter Press.

Assure the proper handling and storage of wastewater treatment sludge (F006 Hazardous Waste).

Maintain good housekeeping practices on all treatment areas.

Troubleshoot alarm conditions and implement corrective actions.

Perform preventative maintenance in accordance with PM schedule and perform equipment repair.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Process Silver Nitrate through a precipitation process.

Process this waste through an Evaporator.

Mechanically and chemically remove metals from PYO shield components using appropriate chemical solutions.

RCRA Hazardous Waste Operations & Chemical Handling:

Assure the proper handling, storage and labeling of hazardous waste generated at this facility in total compliance with State and Federal Regulations.

Inspects and maintains chemical storage areas.

Prepares hazardous waste for shipment. Generate the appropriate shipping papers.

Supply needed chemicals to plant work areas and collect used chemicals.

Emergency Planning

Must actively participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team

Inspect safety equipment including eye washes, emergency showers. and fire extinguisher.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: High-school diploma or GED required. The following preferred: Experience in chemical process operation and control, experience in Emergency Response. an understanding of chemical reactions and process flow. Must be able to work independently.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret governmental regulations and technical procedures.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written. oral, or diagram form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, work outdoors; use hands to operate tools, controls and valves; and reach with hands and arms. The

employee occasionally is required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift 50 pounds and move a cart up to 700 pounds with hand equipment and or forklift.

The noise level in the work environment ranges from low to moderate. The employee may have to occasionally enter high noise or other environments that may contain hazardous chemicals to perform inspections and sampling. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided in these cases.

Anticipated Pay Rate: $22 - $23 DOE

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 am - 5 pm.
