UPMC Western Maryland is looking for a part-time Safety/Security Officer! This is a part-time, day shift position that requires shifts every other weekend and holiday.A Security Officer:

is an extension of the organization's management team that is involved in a variety of day-to-day operations.

is responsible and/or accountable for their actions as well as actions of others that violate the standards of the organization.

must be able to function independently, seeking direction as needed.

handles routine requests for service as well as emergency situations

is required to have an understanding and response to emergencies (Codes Red, Green, Pink, Grey, Purple, Blue, Yellow)

responds to disturbances/disorderly conduct and building security system activations

requires a thorough knowledge and understanding for the officer's safety, as well as others.

has direct responsibility for the Helipad as its operation falls under the umbrella of the Safety/Security Services.

is required to have knowledge and a good understanding of security systems and operations (camera surveillance, access control, panic/duress systems, emergency communication system (garage), infant/child security system, and equipment/patient tracking system.

is required to understand equipment and systems related to the organization's response to safety-security, such as fire alarm systems and building security systems (off-site clinics and primary care centers)

works with local entities i.e., law enforcement, fire services, EMS, and EOC.

MUST understand Basic Maryland Criminal Law and HIPPA Regulations.

investigates and completes written documentation for services rendered as well as suspicious situations and the completion of shift activity reports and WMHS Incident Reporting.

must be able to effectively communicate in a written format as well as verbal.

uses a customer service focus when dealing with others (departments/staff, physicians, patients, visitors) to promote a positive attitude/perception of the Officer and organization.

maintains confidentiality at all times.

Responsibilities:

Takes responsibility for own actions, including the impact of own decisions on patients and others. Also takes responsibility for actions of any direct reports, if applicable, avoiding blame or excuses. Takes appropriate action when anyone in the organization violates standards or regulations, viewing it as unacceptable to look the other way.

Handles sensitive or difficult issues with diplomacy and confidence. Remains clear-headed and focused and inspires others to do the same. Remains objective in the face of strong emotions. Can acknowledge strong emotions without being unduly influenced by their intensity.

Demonstrates understanding of safety practice within scope of duties/responsibilities. Takes no shortcuts that increase the risks of accidents, personal injuries or equipment failures. Looks for unsafe practices in the workplace and takes responsibility to ensure that others are aware of the potential impact. This is distinctly different from those who are unaware of many safety expectations, take shortcuts that increase safety risks, and/or fail to recognize and take timely action to increase safe practices by others.

Takes a proactive approach to anticipating and preventing problems. When problems occur, define those problems, investigate obstacles, gather relevant information, decide whether solving the problem should be a group decision, generate and analyze alternate solutions, and arrive at a workable solution.

Demonstrates ability to work independently, with minimum supervision, as evidenced by using good judgment and following written and verbal instructions carefully. Reports clearly. Seeks guidance and direction as necessary for the successful completion of duties. Makes decisions in the absence of Director or Supervisor.

High School Diploma or GED General Studies preferred. Associate's degree in Criminal Justice preferred.

One year of experience in the Safety/Security field preferred.

Good communication skills, verbal and written.

Ability to make sound decisions and proper notifications.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Licensures

Driver's License

Certifications

BLS - Basic Life Support Certification

IAHSS Basic Security Officer Certification preferred.

N-95 certification, behavior management, and Haz-Mat certification completed annually
