We seek dedicated people who believe they have the skills and ambition to succeed at NREL to apply for this role.Job DescriptionWe are seeking a full-time Project Controller to join the Residential Buildings Research Group (RBRG) in the Building Technologies and Science Center (BTSC). Our research staff contribute to an exciting portfolio of energy research & analysis, combining advanced modeling and analysis with laboratory and field research to explore and advance energy efficiency and buildings-to-grid technologies and support the transition to a clean energy future. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide project management and financial support to research staff and project leaders.We are researchers, engineers, software developers, modelers, physicists, economists, product managers, thought leaders, system thinkers, and life-long learners. Our staff engage in exciting and interesting research projects and find ways to contribute based on our unique interests and skillsets.The Project Controller will work under the general supervision and guidance of project leaders and more senior-level staff to support planning, coordinating, implementing, and assessing project activities according to project objectives and deadlines.Project Controller duties include a variety of tasks that support technical projects. Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

Monitoring Subcontracts: Work with technical leads to develop work descriptions, work with subcontracts to expedite subcontract execution, track accruals, approve invoices, track and retain/file subcontract deliverables.

Planning Projects: Work with technical leads to develop work descriptions, budgets and timelines for new projects.

Tracking Projects: Work with technical leads to support ongoing projects, providing information to track budgets, staffing, and deliverables.

Reporting: Develop and provide materials to technical leads for regular client reporting on subcontracts and projects. Assist technical leads with developing monthly, quarterly and annual reports.

Sample specific tasks:

Develop subcontracting plans.

Work with technical leads to develop work statements, track subcontract execution and management, track subcontract budgets and invoices.

Work with project leads to establish and track against timelines, plan resources into tracking programs, monitor progress against deliverables, and track costs against plans.

Track technical deliverables and send reminders and updates to NREL research leads.

Organize and maintain project files such as project deliverables, statements of work and annual operating plans.

.Basic QualificationsFor Professional II:Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree or equivalent relevant education/experience. General knowledge and application of technical standards, principles, theories and techniques. Frequent application of industry concepts and principles. General knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Skilled in problem solving, written and verbal communication. Ability to use various computer software programs.For Professional I:Relevant Bachelor's Degree or equivalent relevant education/experience. Limited use and/or application of technical principles, theories and concepts. Limited knowledge of industry practices and standards. Basic knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Good analytical and problem solving skills. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to use various computer software programs. Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.Additional Required Qualifications

Supporting researchers and program managers with information management in NREL tools (e.g., Pricing Tool, Sharepoint, AOP Tool)

Proficient and experienced at using Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite and other computer software programs needed to effectively track and manage a project.

Knowledge and application of project management principles and practices

Skilled in problem solving related to project challenges.

Demonstrated strong oral and written communications skills.

Ability to prepare professional communications that are appropriate for internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to work independently and with a team.
