Salary Range: $56,220 to $88,686

The Department of General Services, Division of Facilities Management (DFM) delivers operational and mission critical services 24 hours a day seven days a week on behalf of County residents and Montgomery County Government. DFM manages over 400 County buildings, ensuring they are maintained at the highest level to provide a comfortable environment for employees and the public.

About the Position:

The Department of General Services, Division of Facilities Management seeks an interested individual to be responsible for journeyman level work involving the installation, operation, modification, repair, troubleshooting, and testing of new and existing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and associated equipment located in commercial sized-government facilities throughout Montgomery County. This is journey level work involving the installation, operation, modification, repair, troubleshooting and testing of new and existing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and associated equipment. Duties also include performing routine and complex preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment. The employee will be responsible for removing, calibrating, overhauling, and replacing associated instruments and controls in the air conditioning, ventilating, and heating systems pumps, chemical feeders, valves, traps, boilers, burners, monitors, and other safety devices. This employee will also install, maintain, and repair refrigeration equipment which includes refrigerators, freezers, and drinking fountains.

This position is considered Essential. Essential employees are required to respond or may be placed on stand-by duty during severe weather or other urgent conditions. Employee must have the ability to work standby shifts and respond to after-hours emergency service calls. Work schedule may change to include weekends and/or evenings as part of the regular workweek.

The selected candidates will be required to successfully complete a pre-placement physical exam and drug screening.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Completion of a recognized apprentice HVAC program.

Education: Graduation from high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.

Equivalency: None.

Physical Ability:

Ability to occasionally lift items that weigh as much as 100 pounds and to frequently carry 50 pound items.

Ability to perform work inside and outside year round from scaffolding, ladders, platforms, and roofs and to work overhead or in stretched, cramped and awkward or tiring and uncomfortable positions.

License:

Possession and maintenance at all times of valid driver’s license.

Possession of a Journey level HVAC license issued by the State of Maryland. [Include license number on resume).

Possession of Environmental Protection Agency Universal Recovery and Recycling certification

Preferred Criteria

There is no Preferred Criteria. All applicants will be reviewed by OHR for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated “Qualified,” placed on the Eligible List, and may be considered for an interview.

Employees meeting minimum qualifications who are same grade or higher will be placed on Eligible List as a “Transfer” candidate and may be considered for an interview.
