This study is looking to identify changes in the eye in people with early course schizophrenia. This study is being conducted at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center to provide a basis for future treatments and to better understand the biology behind schizophrenia.

We are inviting those with early course psychosis (< 5 years from first symptoms of psychosis) and healthy volunteers with no history of drug abuse, visual or eye issues, neurologic disorders, or head trauma.

This study is open to individuals between the ages of 18 and 45. You will participate in visual and clinical assessments, blood draw, non-invasive testing of eye function, and non-invasive imaging of the eye and brain. The visual assessments will take a total of 1.5 hours, the fERG scan 1 hour, the MRI 1 hour, and the OCT/OCT-A scans 30 minutes. There will also be a one-year follow-up visit.

All procedures and imaging techniques are non-invasive and will require visits to our facilities in Boston, MA. Volunteers will be compensated for participating. Reimbursements for travel and food will be provided on an individual basis.
