Join a team of Research, Design, Test, & Evaluation (RDT&E) professionals who are identifying, developing, demonstrating, and assessing technologies and concepts to help protect America’s homeland in support of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) Office of Mission and Capability Support (MCS).Amentum is actively seeking a Maritime Communications Subject Matter Expert with US Coast Guard (USCG) experience to support portfolio requirements management, concept development, technical demonstrations, and systems development, integration, and assessment initiatives. The successful candidate will drive project execution in collaboration with DHS S&T leaders, Component staffs, contract team members, vendors, and other subject matter experts and supporting organizations. Candidate will also support Amentum-wide DHS business development opportunities.The position is remote/telework with preference for candidates within vicinity of Washington, DC/the National Capital Region.Essential Responsibilities Include:Serve as Amentum SME for Maritime Communications technical efforts, providing specialized knowledge and guidance related to US Coast Guard shore-based and shipboard communication systems, networks, IT infrastructure, protocols, and procedures. This position will report directly to project leadership to support below activities.
Serve as the go-to authority on USCG shipboard and external maritime communication systems including Federal, Military, and commercial radio, satellite, and other data networks.
Provide customer with technology selection, integration, assessment, procurement, and operations recommendations.
Work with vendors and other team members to develop, execute, and assess technology demonstrations and evaluations
Develop, review, and track capability gap and requirements activities and related project documents
Develop and review technical assessments of emerging technologies and systems
Develop and review technical description documents and test and evaluation plans
Review performer/vendor’s technical documentation for accuracy and completeness
Develop, plan, and support system integration and assessment activities and production of related project artifacts.
Oversee project activities to ensure quality, conformance with conceptual design, and completeness of integration and assessment tasks
Collaborate with project teams to solve complex technical problems
Conduct operations and user-level maintenance training for select new technologies for project stakeholders
Advise program management team on matters affecting project success, schedule, and cost
Represent the organization in meetings and conferences as required
Support additional Amentum DHS opportunities as directed
Minimum Requirements:
U.S. citizenship
Must have an active Secret US Government clearance with ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
Must be able to pass DHS entry of duty (EOD) requirements and maintain Public Trust suitability status
8+ years relevant USCG Maritime Communications experience with Master’s degree or 12+ years with Bachelor's degree
Current knowledge of Rescue 21 system, architecture, and capabilities uses for Search and Rescue (SAR)
Current knowledge of Nationwide Automatic Identification System (NAIS) system, architecture, and capabilities
Demonstrated knowledge of USCG radio and satellite communication systems and USCG missions.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply technical data between both engineers and non-technical system users
Demonstrated high-level tact and interpersonal communication skills.
Proficiency with word-processing, spreadsheets, and integrated software applications
Up to 15% non-local travel may be required
Preferred Qualifications:
Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) Radio Operator's License, Maintainer’s License, or similar
Reside in vicinity of the National Capital Region
