The mission of KEY Project is to nurture and promote the cultural, environmental, social, economic and recreational well-being of the Kualoa-Heʻeia area by providing a vital grassroots civic resource that effectively serves the needs of our diverse multicultural community. KEY provides programs and services touching all ages at our multi-purpose community center in Waiheʻe Valley on Oʻahu.Job purposeThe purpose of the Building & Grounds Custodian is to maintain a clean, secure and overall efficient operation of the campus and grounds while promoting a community centered environment for youth, seniors, families, staff, and guests. Through direct collaboration with the Facilities Manager, as well as outside vendors and contractors, this position plays a vital role in creating a safe and appealing environment for community members and staff.Duties and responsibilitiesMaintains the cleanliness and safety of all facilities, grounds, offices, and company owned equipment and vehicles in compliance with the organization’s policies and procedures, as well as governmental requirements and regulations.Performs daily janitorial duties throughout campus rooms and offices, as well as external spaces and facades to uphold both visual and security standards.Completes routine upkeep of all natural spaces on property utilizing multiple methods and tools to ensure safety, functionality and aesthetics of outdoor grounds.Conducts maintenance tasks related to building, facilities, janitorial and groundskeeping equipment, repairs, and improvements.Works with the Facilities Manager to monitor the property's day-to-day security such as ensuring the facilities are properly locked when not in use, providing after hours opening/closing for facility usage, and reporting any suspicious and/or illegal activity on property.Leads and/or assists KEY Project staff in the set-up, breakdown and execution of outdoor and indoor organization sponsored events and activities.Provides procurement and transportation of necessary supplies or equipment for maintaining grounds and facilities.Participates in and leads special projects as assigned by the Facilities Manager.Partners with the Facilities Manager in soliciting quotes, proposals, or additional information for services performed by outside vendors or contractors and provides support to hired contractors as needed.Updates and maintains appropriate documents, logs, and checklists necessary for job and organizational functions.Participates in staff meetings, training opportunities, and all mandatory KEY Project events as directed by the Facilities Manager.All other duties as assigned.QualificationsMinimum qualifications required include:High school diplomaThree years groundskeeping and custodial experienceClean driving recordAbility to prioritize tasks and take initiative as necessary.Ability to deal effectively and calmly with challenging situations.Strong punctuality and good attendance recordPositive attitude and willingness to continuously learn new skills and knowledgeManual dexterity and strength to work with a variety of toolsPreferred qualifications:Forklift certificationCPR/First Aid certificationWoodworking, mechanical, plumbing and/or electrical skillsAbility to work with a diverse multicultural communityOne year experience working with both youth and senior citizensHave general cultural knowledge of Waihe’e and surrounding ahupua’a.Working conditionsThis position is Part Time, non-exempt, and will generally be performed Monday through Friday during organizational business hours with occasional evening and weekend shifts as needed to support programming and community events. Job functions will be performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to various temperatures, weather conditions, and potentially uneven terrain or vegetation.Physical requirementsThis position requires the ability to walk, move, squat, stand in a variety of positions and locations throughout the campus, the ability to lift heavy objects (minimum 50 pounds), and the ability to maintain spatial awareness of surroundings.What do we offer?As a nonprofit community center, KEY Project offers the opportunity to work for and with a vibrant population of keiki to kūpuna.
