Preble Street’s Emergency Food Services help meet the nutritional needs of unhoused and low-income people through our Food Security Hub, Mobile Food Services, Food Pantry, and shelter-based meal service sites. Preble Street has adapted how it provides food services to effectively meet the food needs of people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity—and our team of food services professionals work together in our innovative Food Programs toward achieving our goals to address and end hunger in our communities.

An opportunity to work as a full-time Sous Chef with Preble Street’s Food Programs team is currently available. This hands-on position will provide shift leadership and coordinate day-to-day meal service operations at Food Security Hub’s Mobile Food operations to deliver high-quality, mission-focused food services to our community. The Sous Chef role will also participate in and perform other kitchen and warehouse tasks at the Food Security Hub and in support of Food Programs.

The schedule for this full-time (40 hours/week), 1st shift position is Sunday - Thursday, 10:30am to 6:30pm.

Qualifications for the Sous Chef include:

Training and/or experience in kitchen or other food service industry work, or other relevant training and/or work experience, with previous shift lead or related experience and experience in provision of services for people experiencing homelessness preferred.

- Ability to safely drive a van or small box truck and a valid Class C driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle records check results, according to Agency and business insurance requirements.

- Ability to regularly work a full-time schedule, with consistent, predictable on-site attendance to meet program coverage needs, and work different and or extended shifts to meet program coverage needs, as needs arise.

- Alignment with Preble Street’s mission, positive regard for individuals experiencing homelessness and/or living in

poverty, and understanding of social, economic, and food justice.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position, with a pay rate of $21.48/hour. Generous paid time off, insurance, and retirement plan benefits include:

4 weeks (160 hours, accrued) vacation time, 12 days (96 hours, accrued) sick time, 16 hours personal time, 12 Paid Holidays
