Ranked 35 among national universities, Boston College has 888 full-time and 1,281 FTE faculty, 2,711 non-faculty employees, an operating budget of $1.4 billion, and an endowment in excess of $3.5 billion.Job DescriptionInstrumentation Mechanic Job DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of the HVAC Shop Supervisor, Assistant Supervisor or other designated staff, the Instrumentation Mechanic performs skilled journeyman level work in the operation, maintenance, repair and installation of mechanical, pneumatic and digital controls for refrigeration, heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, and the College’s Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS). Monitors the EMCS from multiple locations and reviews data/readings and makes necessary adjustments.Provides written (electronic) records of work completed on a daily basis. Communicates with supervisors, contractors, Work Order Center and customers on a continuous basis through multiple means. Employees may perform other duties as assigned to meet the needs of Trades and Facilities Services and Boston College. This position is deemed essential.Requirements Must have a minimum of three (was five) years recent, full-time experience working for a licensed Contractor, or maintenance organization installing, repairing, testing, calibrating pneumatic and digital control systems. Proficient knowledge and demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair HVAC and Refrigeration systems controls (pneumatic and digital). Excellent communication skills Demonstrated ability to work independently and ability to work from written or verbal instructions Skilled in the use of equipment and tools used in the HVAC trade Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license Ability to assist vendors as directed by their supervisor Maintains paper and electronic records Maintains appropriate parts and equipment inventory levels to facilitate quick and seamless repairs and maintenance Demonstrates working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). Utilizes tablet and desktop computer systems to monitor, adjust and trouble systems and to track and report work progress. Must be able to read and understand plans, blueprints and schematics related to HVACand refrigeration systems. Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license. High School graduate/GED Must be able to communicate orally, read, comprehend, write, reason and analyze and perform calculations Must be able to bend, sit, squat, stand, crawl, walk, climb, push/pull, kneel, handle objects (manual dexterity), reach above shoulder level and use fine finger movements. Must be able to lift over 50 pounds. The employee will be subject to the following Environmental Conditions on the job:o Exposure to excessive noiseo Will be around moving machineryo Exposure to marked changes in temperature and/or humidityo Exposure to dust, fumes, gasseso Will drive motorized equipmento Will work in confined quarters with proper PPEPreferred: EPA Universal Recovery License a plus Possession of an Electrical license or other trades licenses a plus Experience with and an understanding of Direct Digital Controls (DDC), Johnson Controls (Metasys) and/or Schneider (EcoStruxure) energy management systems preferred.
