Demonstrate solid veterinary skills and serve as a consummate leader and role model for staff

Primary partner with Hospital Director and Human Resources (HR) in recruiting, interviewing, assessing, and hiring department staff

Oversee onboarding activities of newly hired department staff to ensure a welcoming, timely, organized, and effective New Hire Integration

Collaborate with the management team to assist with the execution of post-onboarding training programs for all hospital staff, ensuring that targeted knowledge is effectively transferred during and post-training.

Positively collaborate with other department leaders to ensure appropriate staffing levels, maximum efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with all of SAGE Centers’ policies and procedures

Assist with developing/implementing strategic initiatives and procedures within the facility and across the SAGE Centers’ network

Continuously develop and manage a team of RVTs/Veterinary Assistants through regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings and other in-the-moment feedback; emphasizingrecognition of positive contributions and providing timely feedback on performance improvement issues

Ongoing evaluation of individual and team performance by inspecting what is expected. Partner with HR and HD to formally address staff performance issues and team dynamics; seeking first to understand and initiate progressive discipline when appropriate in accordance with SAGE Centers’ values and performance management program

Nurture a positive team environment consistent with SAGE Centers’ values. Nurture healthy and effective communication and information flow locally and across the SAGE network. Personally model effective communication skills both internally and externally

Create and maintain department work schedules in a timely manner using available technologies and manage appropriate staffing levels to ensure optimum patient care, maximum efficiency, and workflow

Identify and facilitate direct or indirect training to department staff. Provide routine assessments of staff members’ skill levels and knowledge

Manage department payroll and staffing costs, including reviewing and approving team timecards to identify root causes and provide preventative actions for all problems identified; e.g., overtime, inefficiencies

Author and deliver performance appraisals for all direct reports

Develop and implement strategies and tactics to achieve client satisfaction targets, including investigating service issues, monitoring client surveys for trends, and coordinating efforts with the Director, Hospital Operations to proactively contact clients that have specific complaints; develop staff skills to provide targeted response to clients, inclusive of appropriate and timely resolution of issues

Deliver results to target, via developing and executing effective plans, constantly communicating the connection between team members’ daily functions and the company’s KPIs

Ensures safety practices are observed by your team to proactively avoid workplace injuries of self and others

Performs other duties as assigned

This role is full-time and considered exempt. The pay range is $85,000 - $100,000 a year. Compensation is based on location, skillset, and education.

Essential Job Requirements:

Three years of experience in a clinical supervisory veterinary setting; or four years of related work experience

Schedule flexibility to effectively manage staff in a 24/7, 365 hospital environment

Excellent leadership, management, staff development, problem-solving, interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills

Strong conceptual, analytical, research, problem-solving, and presentation skills, and abilities, consistently demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness in work product

The ability to deliver results, develop leads and staff, and the desire to develop and progress in your own knowledge and skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports and business correspondences; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and staff

Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, working knowledge of hospital EMR's

Maintain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP); must obtain within 60-days of hire or transfer into this role; (this requirement is waived if the incumbent holds a valid CA-RVT license)

Current CA RVT highly preferred

College degree preferred, but not required
