The Opportunity

The Family-owned company was acquired by its current owners in 2010 and has enjoyed a 20% year-over- year growth rate ever since. A commitment to quality, service, and on-time delivery allows for continued and future growth, and the need for an expanded leadership team, including the addition of a seasoned Controller that is looking to join a fast-growing company. The Controller will manage the financial aspects of the Company. This role will report to the CEO (Owners) and oversee all traditional aspects of financial management, including but not limited to finance and accounting, tax, and risk management.

The Position

Key Accountabilities

Oversee A/P, A/R, general ledger, and consolidations.

Prepare and oversee month-end closeout procedures.

Manage the company’s financial, accounting, audit, and budgeting functions.

Facilitate and manage implementation of software and systems to enhance transparency of “Work in Progress” and evaluate costs on a project basis.

Coordinate the preparation of financial and business plans, budgets, and forecasts, provide analysis of data and advice to the company’s CEO.

Respond to in-depth analytical questions or concerns from owners about the financial performance or monthly close, variances therein, planning, and budget process.

Analyze financial statements to pinpoint potential weaknesses.

Lead the quarterly and year-end audit and preparation of schedules and documents for independent auditors.

Analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide business leaders.

Handle payroll processing and labor tax compliance.

Manage tax filings to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

Ensure compliance with bank loan covenants, cash management and controls per company policies and industry standards.

Ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements related to accounting practices.

Remain abreast of new developments within the company, and trends within financial management, and make recommendations as to implementation.

Participate in strategic planning processes.

Assist with special projects and additional tasks, as requested.

Manage, mentor, and inspire a staff of three full-time employees; manage the outsourcing of services to third-party suppliers as needed.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be an experienced Controller, capable of working with limited supervision, often under tight deadlines and in a lean environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership and organizational skills to solve complex financial issues through teamwork, cooperation, and communication. They should possess uncompromised integrity, be willing to “roll up their sleeves” and be involved at all levels of the organization.

Career Experience

Minimum of seven years of progressively increasing responsibility in a financial leadership role, including leading accounting, risk, tax and audit.

U.S. GAAP experience required.

Capable of implementing and working in different, frequently used software programs and systems, specifically.

Experience in a discrete manufacturing business including related cost accounting.

Familiarity with accrual and cash basis accounting practices as well as percentage of completion accounting methods.

Demonstrate ability to establish and manage strong financial controls.

Education Credentials

An undergraduate degree in finance or accounting; graduate degree preferred.

A CPA, CFA and/or MBA, preferred.

Effective communicator who can articulate the financial impact of business decisions to multiple constituents, at varying levels of the organization, including the owners.

Ability to multi-task and juggle multiple, competing priorities.

Confidence combined with solid communication and presentation skills.
