The Windows AI Proactive Experience team is creating new experiences that will leverage the potential of Artifical Intelligence (AI) in Windows. We are developing features that will make Windows more efficient, more informative, and more oriented towards accomplishing tasks using AI. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.In alignment with our Microsoft values, we are committed to cultivating an inclusive work environment for all employees to positively impact our culture every day.ResponsibilitiesYou will be a Principal Software Engineer in the Windows AI Proactive Experiences team, reporting to the Vice President of Engineering as a Staff member, leading multiple teams that use Windows technologies along with Web and Server technologies, to plan, build, test, and deliver high-quality software solutions driven by AI for Windows users. We are looking for a candidate that has experience shipping cloud and web-based systems at large scale using Machine Learning (ML) inferencing models.You will:

Deliver new features rapidly and incrementally at a “speed of web” cadence

Create, test, and improve production systems that meet our main proactive experience objectives

Find the best and fastest way to accomplish the project goals—we prefer simplicity

Lead technical projects with a global team of collaborators

Collaborate with other teams in Windows and Bing to use the best technologies and systems available to deliver user value

QualificationsRequired Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, TypeScript, or C OR equivalent experience

7+ years of experience working on systems that use ML at scale with a combination of back-end services and front-end client native and web UX

Other RequirementsAbility to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, TypeScript, or C OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, TypeScript, or C OR equivalent experience.

Working with Azure/AWS or other cloud computing platforms

Communicating technical details clearly across organizational boundaries and collaborating with other organizations to use their technology.

Analytical skills with a systematic and structured approach to software design

A personal sense of ownership and accountability is needed, along with the ability to develop and deliver on time while managing internal stakeholder expectations.

Self-motivated with drive for reaching across teams and organizations to work together

Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $158,500 - $276,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $202,800 - $304,200 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
