General Responsibilities:

The person in this position will be responsible for all aspects of estimating engineering, fabrication, and materials for projects.

Essential Functions/Major Duties include but not limited to the following:

Acquire RFQ’s, drawings, read specs, perform take offs.

Determine the size, number, type and weight of the required materials.

Solicit prices from subcontractors and vendors.

Accurately estimate the true cost of completing each project.

Add appropriate overhead recovery and profit margin to bids.

Assist with Project Management as necessary to meet customer needs and deadlines.

Provide price quotes, answer inquiries or requests and resolve complaints and problems to ensure quotes meet sales needs.

Hold quote review meetings when required.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager, Operations Manager, Sales Manager, General Manager and/or President.

Job Scope:

This job has recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm. Duties involve a moderate degree of complexity with vendors. Position can expect occasional rude people and stressful situations. Duties are performed under direct supervision of the Engineering Manager with established procedures and guidelines. Errors in accuracy, judgment, service, and level of professionalism affect the smooth and efficient operation of the sales department, ultimately impacting the profitability of the company as well as customer and Western UT staff efficiency and trust levels.

Interpersonal Contacts:

Contacts are made both inside and outside the company. Internal contacts include the President, General Manager, Operations Manager, Drafting Manager, Sales Manager, Sales Team, Engineering Department, Scheduling Department, Purchasing Department, Production and Warehouse Staff. External contacts include vendors and distributors.

Specific Skills:

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Basic understanding of mathematics, including algebra and geometry, and the ability to apply these concepts.

Good problem-solving skills.

Ability to understand and work with RFQ’s, specifications, engineering calculations and drawings.

Familiarity with structural steel materials and fabrication methods.

Maintain a mature and positive demeanor at all times, even with rude people or during stressful situations.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively on appropriate technical and business levels.

Ability to maintain good rapport with vendors and to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during work activities.

Good organizational and planning skills.

Ability to work with tight time frames.

Knowledge of Western UT’s products, services and expectations for quality; professional, service-oriented mannerism.

Knowledge of Telecommunications and Utility Industries.

Strong computer skills and specific knowledge of Excel, Adobe Acrobat and Outlook.

All assigned cost estimates are accurate.

RFQ’s are completed on time.

Keeps a good working relationship with other employees, subcontractors and vendors.

Consistently displays the ability to recognize and deal with priorities.

Demonstrates good planning and organizational skills which ensured the achievements of company goals.

Consistently displays a sense of urgency for all tasks. Completes work quickly.

Keeps absenteeism and tardiness to less than 2%.

Salary will be determined by experience.

Education and/or Experience:

Five Year experience in Wireless and/or Utility industry.

Experience as estimator in steel market desired.

Strong computer skills and specific knowledge of Excel, Adobe Acrobat and Outlook.

Job Conditions:

Clean office in a manufacturing environment

Hours may exceed more than 40 per week.

Physical Demands:

Ability to sit for long periods of time.

Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands and wrists, i.e., typing on computer keyboard.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via the phone and e-mail.
