STEAM Academy Assistant – Outdoor Education - is responsible for the completion of a variety of general and specific duties related to the Outdoor Education program to include the planning and implementing of summer and winter camps. The STEAM Academy Assistant will be required to work a variety of hours, including extended hours during the summer. Frequent ability to travel is required for the summer program offerings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversee and monitor participants during field activities to minimize risks and ensure a secure learning environment.

Provide real-time feedback to participants.

Maintain effective communication with program staff.

Hold parent/participant meetings to provide an overview of summer/winter program offerings.

Ensure proper paperwork is submitted, with all required signatures and documentation.

Collaborate with program staff to develop and update program curriculum.

Maintain program equipment and ensure it is kept in good condition.

Monitor and track inventory.

Assist in meal preparation and planning for activities.

Prepare food-related equipment prior to trips. Clean all equipment upon return.

Provide hands-on instruction to participants.

During the winter program, provide Ski and Snowboard lessons to participants 8-18 years of age.

Drive participants to and from trips and activities.

Maintain the cleanliness of program van.

Participate in training and professional development.

Work as part of a team: the team includes co-workers, partner agencies and the participant.

Monitor participant safety.

Bring policy issues to the Management Team as they arise.

Maintain confidentiality according to regulation, policies, and procedures.

Perform all related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Intermediate knowledge of skiing and snowboarding preferred.

Current First Aid and CPR certification, preferred.

Clean state driving record.

Clean state and federal background check.

Ability to travel within the state frequently.

Ability to work some evening and weekend hours.

Conditions of Employment:

Location: STEAM Academy – 758 North Shoreline Drive, Wasilla, AK 99654

Supervisor: STEAM Academy Program Coordinator – Outdoor Education

Schedule: Employees work 10 hours each day for four days. Days of the week vary depending on the program schedule (including weekend days).

Salary: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour DOE/E.
