ART FOUNDRY PRODUCTION ASSISTANT I

Part-Time (25 hours) at $18.00 an hour

Academic Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Languages: Bilingual in Armenian or Spanish required.

Work Location: Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, CA 90023

Probationary Period: 30 days with a minimum commitment of 2 years.

Work Schedule: 25 hours a week and willingness to work additional paid hours as needed.

Personality & Attitude: Must have friendly personality, noticeably positive attitude, and sense of teamwork.

Physical Demands: Must be physically capable to lift, lower, move, and carry objects ranging in weight from 1-100 lbs. Assistance from team members provided as reasonably needed.

ABOUT THE COMPANY:

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Koko’s Foundry team member. We are a small manufacturing company that has been melting and casting metal for over forty years. The company has been in the same location and under the same ownership since the company's inception in the early 1980s.

Koko’s Foundry, Inc. is known as an "art foundry" catering to artists, interior and exterior designers, architectural firms, real estate developers, and other product manufacturers. Most of our work is business-to-business (B2B) but we are proud to have a significant portion of our projects come from retail customers for memorial plaques, creative gift ideas, antique vehicle restoration enthusiasts, and even hobby sculptors. We work with various forms of non-ferrous metals and specialize in bronze, brass, and aluminum.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICES:

Koko’s Foundry, Inc. produces various types of products and provides an array of services for clients produced from bronze, brass, and aluminum. Among a wide variety, products we manufacture include plaques and signs, memorial tablets, statues, door handles, lighting fixtures, furniture, office and home décor, and awards. Our services include creating rubber and wax molds, casting, refinishing, welding, drilling, tapping, grinding, polishing, patinizing, painting, plating, and creating digital 2D and 3D models.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Production Assistant is primarily responsible for creating the template “layouts” for the production of architectural plaques and bronze memorials. The secondary function of the Production Assistant is to support the final stages of production with applying the finishing to the product. Finally, the Production Assistant provides support to the overall production team on an as-needed basis as assigned by management and project coordinator staff. The Production Assistant will perform the following primary functions:

Primary Function:

- Create physical project layouts to match client-approved digital design.

- Attach various components of a project to the production templates using spray-on adhesives, wax, glue, or attachment.

Secondary Function:

- Apply surface and pinhole filler to products to prepare for final color coating;

- Apply masking tape to surfaces of newly-colored products to protect from polishing, and

- Log work completed in document and report to Administrative Coordinator.

TOOLS AND RESOURCES:

The Production Assistant must be comfortable and familiar with using various hand and power tools such as, but not limited to the following:

- hand tools such as putty knives, pliers, hand saws, metal filers, etc.;

- power tools to grind and cut including abrasive disc tools, bandsaws, etc.;

- measuring tools (inches and millimeters) and laser levelers for accuracy, and

- warm wax, glues and other adhesives, and solvents such as soft detergents.

LANGUAGE & COMMUNICATION:

The Production Assistant must understand, speak, and read English. Preference will be given to bilingual candidates who also speak Spanish or Armenian. The position requires very little writing except for logging work completion dates (daily) and taking basic notes.

TECHNOLOGY & DIGITAL EQUIPMENT:

Employees are required to clock in and out with a personalized keycard on a digital timeclock device. Being comfortable using a standard digital tablet to receive basic information is desirable. The Production Assistant must be able to use a standard cellphone camera to take digital photos to:

- log their completed work for production scheduling, daily;

- archive products and components, occasionally; and

- highlight production defects for team discussions, as needed.

HOURS & SCHEDULE:

This position is parttime, 5-hours a day, for 25 hours a week. One 15-minute break. No lunch break for parttime positions. The position offers the following schedule options to be accommodative of work hours.

Schedule Option A: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Schedule Option B: 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM

Schedule Option C: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

The Foundry Production Assistant I must use a standard keycard to clock-in and clock-out of work hours. Pay is based on number of hours of work performed. This position does not offer working offsite or remotely.

WORKSPACE REQUIREMENTS:

Employees are responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment for themselves, team members, customers, and visitors. Employees are required to:

- Wear assigned uniform during work hours and maintain professional appearance;

- Work environment must always be kept safe, routinely cleaned, and consistently organized.

- Tools, machinery, and equipment must be repaired, cleaned, or organized at end of workday;

- Paperwork, records, and documents must be organized and filed consistently and systemically;

- Trash (cups, wrappers, or food waste), scrap, or material debris must be discarded end of workday.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:

The purpose of the Foundry Production Assistant I position is to provide critical support to the production team with casting products, meeting project deadlines, and maintaining quality of finished products. The above duties and responsibilities list is not all-inclusive, and the position will require performance of tasks that may not be listed above but which may be appropriate within the role and skill set of the incumbent.

Koko’s Foundry, Inc. honors all federally recognized holidays and honors the observance of certain religious or ethnic holidays not necessarily considered federal holidays in the United States. Employees have 10 health and personal days each year. This position does not offer medical benefits.
