Experienced Deckhand (Alaska) (Seattle, WA)

This position would be expected to start approximately in June 2024.

Ocean Peace is looking for a Deckhand for one of our Factory Trawlers working in the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska. Must have familiarity with various nets and cod ends, able to read a net plan and sew.

Must have an AB license and experience working on board a vessel.

Must have RECENT vessel experience.

This position requires a 75-day commitment.

Must be able to understand English for safety reasons.

COMPENSATION:

Pay is based on crew share (percentage of the catch) and is based on the actual sales price of the product produced on your trip(s). We cannot provide an estimate of what you could make. There are too many variables.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

-Board and exit the vessel by gangplank or Jacob’s ladder without assistance.

-Board or exit a skiff without assistance in all weather conditions.

-Ascend and descend steep stairways and ladders in all temperatures.

-Work at least 16 hours per day, seven days per week for the duration of the contract.

-Perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.

-Work long hours in all kinds of weather.

-Lift and carry weight more than 50 pounds repeatedly.

-Work in a cold and wet environment.

-Don life jacket, life vest, and survival suit without assistance.

-Live and work with others in close quarters.

-Be away from medical care and supervision for 3+ months at a time.

-Share crew quarters, bathroom facilities, and common dining areas with other crew members.

-Must be able to pass pre-employment and random DOT drug tests per USCG regulations.
