Work Schedule:

Full-time; Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. Possible remote work per University policy.

General Description:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for most areas related to financial reporting and

supervises student workers assigned to support the accounting department. This

position addresses a multitude of accounting activities including preparation of

accounting entries, financial reporting, user administration, audit preparation and support

for budget and forecasting activities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Coordinate, prepare, and review general ledger accounting entries for operations, auxiliary services, and capital transactions.

Coordinate, review, and prepare work papers required for the external financial audit.

Oversee preparation of monthly bank reconciliations.

Review and process monthly interdepartmental charges.

Review and post accounting feeds to the Banner Finance module.

Monitor deferred gift activity.

Assemble deferred gifts and other audit work papers at fiscal year-end.

Administer access to Banner Self-Service.

Provide Banner Web Finance training and budgeting support to the university community.

Answer routine inquiries from financial managers and other authorized personnel regarding their account activity and/or balance.

Supervise the activities of assigned student workers.

Establish and maintain valid accounting code data and authorizations for Banner Web query access.

Act as the first point of contact with third-party administrators regarding routine and ongoing deferred gift fund activities.

Complete required annual surveys.

Complete the annual Federal Student Aid FISAP and AOR.

Supports the AVP for finance in preparing the University’s 990 tax return.

File Office of the Insurance Commissioner annual report.

Oversee rental property income and expense activity.

Track stock gifts throughout the year.

Review and approve wires, ACH, and foreign currency requests in the Bank of America Cashpro platform.

Provides backup to the Accounting Assistant as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Willingness and ability to supervise the work of other team members.

Knowledge of accounting theories, principles, methods, practices, and terminology.

Strong computer proficiency with advanced experience using Microsoft Excel.

Ability to work in a small team on projects and meet deadlines.

Knowledge of posting transactions to a general ledger and performing queries on a database.

Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.

Experience delegating assignments.

Flexibility to change tasks when needed.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field.

At least two years of experience in the accounting field.

Finalists must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background and credit checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency using an ERP accounting system with multiple system interfaces.

Fund accounting experience.

Accounting experience in a university setting or other other complex organizations with multiple companies and programs or cost centers.

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

Work Conditions: Office environment.

Overtime may be required, especially during fiscal year end close, audit prep, and audit.
