DescriptionThe Role:Project Kuiper spans across space and ground elements operating together as an integrated system. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for alignment and resolution of cross-functional requirements, interfaces, and open issues at the system level. This role requires experience with integrated hardware and software system development as well as appreciation for complex applications.Export Control Requirement:Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Key job responsibilitiesThis position requires direct technical experience developing relevant systems, cross-functional systems engineering, and program management. You will create and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but will also roll up your sleeves and contribute directly. A Senior Systems Engineer in this role will collaborate with and influence partnering teams to drive alignment and resolution of gaps between teams in interdisciplinary efforts. Your ability to identify improvements and optimizations within defined strategies as well as lead change and impact analysis is crucial. You will make cross-functional trade-offs between subsets of the following dimensions: performance, schedule, cost, risk, opportunity, complexity, and scale. You will work with a team of experts to successfully accomplish the following activities:

Lead cross-functional system engineering activities.

Identify key interfaces and APIs, and effectively communicate key requirements, constraints, and risks.

Manage system level requirements and interfaces for alignment and compliance.

Coordinate trade studies, analyses and closure of cross-functional technical issues to for optimization and successful implementation of the system design.

Derive acceptance criteria and/or performance specifications as part of requirements engineering and verify compliance.

Lead technical risk assessments and failure mode identification.

Identify and escalate execution and technical dependencies in relation to schedule impact your team and other teams’ goals in relation to performance, schedule, cost, risk, opportunity, complexity, and scale at the system level.

Optimize cross-team processes that improve team efficacy and delivery.

About the teamProject Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:Redmond, WA, USABasic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent.

6+ years of experience in a technical lead, systems engineer, technical program or project management role with significant experience architecting and integrating HW and SW into a complex system and including leadership of cross-functional teams delivering products on schedule.

Direct experience with HW and SW development including specification, design, build and qualification

Experience with modern development methods for mission critical applications

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent.

Ability to negotiate and resolve conflict smoothly and without use of formal authority (influence without authority)

Excellent communication skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Track record of successfully delivering complete systems (hardware, firmware, software, algorithms) on time, to scope, with high quality.

Strong time and task management skills with consistent attention to detail

Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, with ability to work successfully across all engineering disciplines.

Maturity, judgment, and proven ability to lead and influence others.

Independently driven, resourceful, and able to deliver results with minimal direction.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with engineers, business owners, and senior business leaders.

High sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.

Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals

The base pay for this position ranges from $121,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
