MAINTENANCE WORKER I/II

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with administrative responsibilities and requires contact with the public. The Maintenance Worker II position directly assists the Association’s Chief Executive Officer in the maintenance of the Association’s property, building and grounds.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

The Maintenance I/II position reports to the Chief Executive Officer, with periodic administrative direction from the Association’s Office Manager. Exercises direct scheduling and supervision over seasonal employees.

The Maintenance II position works closely with the C.E.O. in planning and preparation for the annual Humboldt County Fair, and other facility events, and day-to-day maintenance requirements throughout the year which include basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical and operation of heavy equipment skills. The Maintenance II position also assists in developing annual operational budget and capital expenditure repairs and replacement.

Carpentry

⮚ Use carpentry skills to build and install exhibit walls and display panels.

⮚ Be proficient in the use of power equipment including circular saws, drills, etc.

⮚ Performs building maintenance tasks that pertain to carpentry.

⮚ Performs other related duties as assigned or requested when needed.

Plumbing

⮚ Installs various plumbing fixtures and systems according to specifications using appropriate tools and equipment.

⮚ Inspects, examines, and tests installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods to ensure safety and sanitation of work areas.

⮚ Modifies, cleans, and maintains pipe systems, units, fittings, or related machines or equipment using hand or power tools.

⮚ Repairs valves, fixtures, water, and sewer lines to ensure the proper function of all types of plumbing systems.

⮚ Maintains or repairs plumbing by replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes, or opening clogged drains.

⮚ Inspects work sites for obstructions or holes that could cause structural weakness.

⮚ Troubleshoots plumbing problems in water supply, sewer, and pump station systems.

⮚ Responds to plumbing failures and plumbing emergencies and makes repair.

⮚ Prepares component lists of necessary parts to complete job assignments.

Electrical

⮚ Performs installations of switchgear, transformers, panel boards, lighting systems, emergency systems, and distribution equipment for setup and teardowns of events.

⮚ Troubleshoots electrical problems in Automatic Transfer Switches, power distribution circuits, and lighting control circuits to ensure the proper function of electrical systems.

⮚ Repairs breakers, contactors, starters, motors, wires, and cables to ensure the proper function of electrical systems when failures occur.

⮚ Inspects equipment and facilities to determine condition and needed repairs to ensure the safety and security of the areas.

⮚ Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.

⮚ Tests electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures using testing devices to ensure compatibility and safety of system.

⮚ Inspects electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes.

⮚ Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.

⮚ Assembles, installs, tests, and maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures using hand tools or power tools.

⮚ Researches and prepares parts inventory for services and repairs.

Heavy Equipment

⮚ Performs basic trouble shooting and repairs of all types of vehicles and equipment.

⮚ Operates and inspects equipment and vehicles to ensure safe operations and diagnose defects.

⮚ Dismantles and reassembles equipment and vehicles using appropriate tools and equipment.

⮚ Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, repairs and replaces parts or schedules for repair.

⮚ Monitor vehicles to ensure safe, operating efficiency.

⮚ Installs, replaces, or change parts and attachments according to vehicle and equipment specifications.

Painting

⮚ Scrape, sand and fill surfaces in preparation for painting and finishing.

⮚ Operates paint spraying equipment for application of all paints and coatings.

⮚ Complete painting projects using appropriate brushes, rollers and spray apparatus.

⮚ Performs routine maintenance functions and ensures all equipment are kept clean.

KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

⮚ Possess a valid driver’s license.

⮚ Possess excellent problem-solving skills.

⮚ Prepares component lists of necessary parts to complete job assignments.

⮚ Practices good physical work methods, utilizes good work habits, and meets established production standards.

⮚ Wears proper personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves, googles) and always works in a safe work environment.

⮚ Maintains cleanliness of work area and ensures a safe working environment by monitoring safety procedures and equipment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Employees work in outdoor and indoor environments with moderate noise levels, moderate temperature conditions, and occasionally exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing Association policies and procedures.

⮚ Work is indoors and outdoors.

⮚ Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risk that require following basic safety precautions.

⮚ Outdoor work may involve some exposure to weather conditions.

⮚ Expose to farm animals, dust, dirt, and unpleasant odors.

⮚ Moves objects at least 50 pounds.

⮚ Works a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.

Salary

$16 - $20 per hour
