General Description:

Now accepting applications for a full-time or part-time, long-term automotive technician who can “hit the ground running” with little need for “on the job” training. Springs Brake and Suspension is a small but well-established local shop looking to expand in the near term. We prioritize customer service and customer education. This position will be customer-facing in addition to hands-on cars.

To be considered for this position you’ll need:

(Pay range appropriate to applicable knowledge, skills, and ability)

3-5 years working in a commercial shop-like environment, or equivalent experience

3-5 years or equivalent “wrenching” on most/all current circulation makes and models as it relates to:

Inspecting, identifying, maintaining, and replacing (full-service) all brake-related components (ASE-level competency), including stock and common aftermarket parts (performance parts, big brake kits, etc) and potential safety and/or maintenance-related concerns

Inspecting, identifying, maintaining, and replacing (full-service) all suspension-related components (ASE-level competency), including stock and common aftermarket parts (performance parts, lift kits, etc) and potential safety and/or maintenance-related concerns

Inspecting, identifying, maintaining, and replacing (full-service) all steering-related components (ASE-level competency), including stock and common aftermarket parts (performance parts, lift kits, etc) and potential safety and/or maintenance-related concerns

General knowledge of all auto mechanic work and systems

General knowledge of a mechanic shop, brake and suspension-related tools, devices, and technology, including:

Strut spring compressor

Hydraulic press

Hunter HawkEye alignment system

Hydraulic BenkPak 2- & 4-post lifts, pneumatic scissor lifts

Air compressors and pneumatic tools

plasma cutter and welding equipment

Experience keeping logs of work and proactively reporting on jobs completed and any issues or trouble-shooting

A dedication to keeping a clean and organized shop

Managing inventory and ordering parts

A strong commitment to all health, safety, and common sense guidelines

Experience using auto mechanic software for logging jobs, ordering parts, etc (Mitchell 1 or equivalent)

Excellent overall organization and focused attention to detail

Excellent communication skills

Pride in your work and skillset

Other job responsibilities as assigned around the shop during slow times

A High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

To really stand out and excel as a candidate you’ll want:

Exceptional customer rapport and ability to clearly and concisely explain complicated auto mechanical systems

ASE certification, or equivalent knowledge in the following areas:

Automobile & Light Truck Certification Tests (A Series)

A4 - Suspension & Steering

A5 - Brakes

Additional system ASE certifications or equivalent knowledge

Community ties within the Portland, OR and/or Vancouver, WA locale car world (car clubs, car shows, online forums, etc)

To be someone who loves to learn (Springs may be willing to pay for ongoing trainings and certifications)

Please be aware this position does require a valid driver’s license and clean driving history as well as the ability to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; work in prolonged noisy environments; work from lifts and ladders; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools and supplies and/or exert around 50 lbs; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls and machinery; to work with hazardous materials (with provided safety equipment), work in confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions, and to wear and work in personnel protective equipment when necessary.
