Position: Program Coordinator, Local Food Campaign

Supervisor: Program Director

Classification: Full Time = 40 hours, nonexempt

This position is regularly scheduled for Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm. Once a month,

Saturday work (7am-2pm) is required. Occasional after hours work may also be required. ASAP

offers a hybrid work schedule of three days in ASAP’s Asheville office and two days remote.

Purpose: The Program Coordinator will assist in the development and implementation of farm and partner services and programming as part of the Local Food Campaign team. This includes in-office operational support, outreach and engagement, training, and events.

Primary Activities (include but are not limited to):

Program Operations

● Assist in the design and implementation of farmer programs, services, and resources around marketing and business planning

● Lead inventory management and sales of Appalachian Grown branded materials

● Answer incoming calls, respond to public inquiries/requests

● Greet and support in-office visitors

● Manage projects within budgets

● Enter and track program data

● Complete reports accurately and on time

● Represent the organization in a professional manner

● Travel throughout the region as needed

● Participate in organizational planning, documentation, staff meetings, and activities

Farm and Partner Outreach and Engagement

● Provide outreach and support for ASAP’s Appalachian GrownTM program, Local Food Guide, and other Local Food Campaign projects

● Identify, network, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders such as community and agricultural resource providers across government, nonprofit, and educational institutions

● Assist in the design and implementation of promotional campaigns, community outreach and engagement

Farm and Partner Support, Training, and Events

● Support and coordinate logistics and content for ASAP events such as the Business of Farming Conference, the Farm Tour, workshops, etc., with appropriate program staff

● Give presentations, facilitate discussion, and coordinate training across a wide range of groups

● Provide direct support to farmers, including navigating market outlets and requirements, making connections with potential buyers, troubleshooting marketing and farm business challenges, accessing services and support, coordinating working groups, and connecting them to additional resources

● Implementation and support of seasonal and special projects such as cost share, grants, creating and updating educational resources and materials, Local Food Guide database management.

● Assist with Asheville City Market once a month on Saturday mornings

● Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; Candidates who are bilingual (Spanish/English) will be given preference

● Excellent oral and written communication/presentation skills suitable for a wide variety of audiences

● Experience in farming or working with farmers

● Experience in public speaking, training, community organizing, and/or nonprofit work

● Experience working in an office setting

● Problem solving and critical thinking

● Strong organizational, project & time management skills

● Demonstrated proficiency with Google G-Suite platform (email, drive, docs, sheets), Wordpress, Salesforce (database), and My Newsletter Builder

● Ability to work independently and collaboratively, both internally and externally

Required

● ASAP requires all staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and to follow office guidelines around masks, based on current recommendations.

● Must provide consent for a background check. ASAP does not base our employment decisions solely on background checks or convictions, and we do not ask for credit checks.

● Must have a valid drivers license. Must have reliable transportation.

● Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds without assistance

● Regional travel required (within 100 miles of Asheville) /mileage reimbursement provided

● Monthly Saturday shifts at Asheville City Market

Compensation

The salary for this position is $45,968 per year. First year employees are immediately eligible for fringe benefits including 10 paid holidays, 12 paid sick days, 12 paid vacation days (paid vacation increases with term), an Employee Assistance Program for the entire household, and employer match of 3% to SIMPLE IRA.

ASAP is currently a qualifying employer for the Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSFL) Program.
