Sr R&D Biologist

Sr R&D Biologist (Hazel Technologies, Inc. – Chicago, IL); Multiple positions available. Design, conduct, and manage biology related projects aimed at developing innovative solutions to improve the shelf-life of fresh produce. Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure the timely delivery of project goals. Lead and complete 3-5 biological related projects that align with company objective independently. Optimize and implement novel experimental protocols and uncover solutions to complex biological problems. Alter experimental direction based on scientific expertise and drive independent solutions that lead to project conclusions. Design and conduct proof-of-concept experiments to grow company’s new product pipeline. Execute molecular biology assay development, validations, and sample testing activities. Identify putative plant pathogens by performing molecular techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR and Real-Time PCR (qPCR) assays. Generate technical reports with scientifically sound interpretations and provide recommendations on future work. Position based in Chicago, IL. Domestic travel required up to 5% of working time.

Requires a PhD degree (or foreign equivalent) in Plant Pathology, Plant Biology, Molecular Biology or a related field. Education, training, or experience must include: Leading and completing biology-related projects; Molecular biology, postharvest science, and plant pathology; DNA extraction, PCR, and Real-Time PCR (qPCR) assays; Collaborating with cross-functional teams; Conveying scientific concepts through verbal and written presentations; Plant biology research. Experience may be gained concurrently. Position based in Chicago, IL. Domestic travel required up to 5% of working time.
