Oil Tanker Line Handler

Line Handlers at Republic Services provide support at oil terminal sites in South Portland by performing line handlings and booming operations for large oil tankers and barges.

Work periods are normally 1-2 hours at a time, up to 6-8 times per week, during random times during the day, night, weekdays or weekends, including holidays.

Day in the Life:

-Working within a small team of 2-4 people outside in the elements, along the oil terminal piers

-Gear up in your life jacket and other safety gear

-Catches and throws heaving lines from ship’s docking.

-Pulls mooring lines down the dock and secure to bollards and when the ship leaves, removes mooring lines from bollards.

-Performs other, related duties as assigned. These are duties that may not be specifically listed in this description, but which are within the general nature typically associated with the employee’s level of work

-Be able to assist in small boat operations on the water in all types of weather.

What you need to apply:

-A cell phone

-Valid driver’s license

-Reliable form of transportation

-High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred

-Ability to perform heavy lifting for very short periods of time in all weather conditions.

-Willingness to work some weekdays, weekends, and on-call hours whenever available.

-Be physically able to wear personal protective equipment when necessary

-Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening, including marijuana and be placed on a random drug testing program throughout your employment
