The Forestry Division in Anderson, CA has an opening for a qualified forester with a working knowledge of forest inventory methods and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) experience. This position qualifies towards RPF experience requirements.

About The Position

Leverage modern technology for on-the-ground forestry applications

Collaborate with internal and contract technical specialists to perform data queries and analysis using GIS

Effectively generate maps and resource reports

Install, troubleshoot, and manage various forestry-related programs and software

Maintain and update GIS map files and associated data in relational databases

Manage data collection for the Company’s annual timber harvest depletion

Manage files and reports related to the Company’s carbon offset program

Read and interpret maps and aerial photography

Hike in extremely remote and mountainous regions using maps, compass, and GPS

Qualifications

Bachelors’ degree in Forestry, GIS, or Natural Resources discipline

Working experience using ArcGIS Pro

Demonstrated capability installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining computer programs and software

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel

Experience with R, Python, or SQL databases is a plus

Familiarity with standard data collection tools such as iPads and GPS and file sharing/data management applications

Working knowledge of forest inventory methods and GIS

Experience with QGIS and Avenza is desirable

Demonstrated organizational skills with superior attention to detail

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Positive attitude, self-motivated, ability to work as a team member in a crew environment

Valid California driver’s license

The general wage range for this position at Sierra Pacific Industries is from $65,000 to $85,000 per year, and is dependent upon a number of factors, including, but not limited to: relevant work experience, skill, knowledge, and/or education.
