Pottery Instructor
MUGI POTTERY located on the upper west side, is looking for a ceramics instructor to teach weekly one time classes on Saturday evening in intro hand building, and intro to the wheel. Employment status will be part time (W2 or independent contractor), with opportunity for growth and more hours. The teaching hourly wage is $25/hour. Benefits include access to the studio while classes are not scheduled, space to store your work, access to materials, and a firing stipend of $35/month.
Qualifications for the position are as follows:
Relative experience working in ceramics
Previous teaching experience is recommended, instructors should have the ability to do the following:
Demonstrate a thorough understanding for throwing on the potter's wheel and hand building processes
Provide engaging and helpful demonstrations to students
Have a dialogue of student interest and adjust to address special topics
Communicate clear instruction to students
Responsibilities for the position are as follows:
Provide quality education which gives students a solid understanding of the ceramic process and introduction to various materials and tools (we fire cone 6 electric)
Must be able to teach on at least 2 Saturdays evenings per month
Ability to make a long term commitment
Adhere to semester schedule, punctuality is very important
Uphold studio cleaning procedures
Report any issues to management in a timely manner
