Description We are offering a role for an Accountant in the non-profit sector, based in Norfolk, Virginia. This role involves handling Accounts Receivables and Payables, Grant accounting and reporting, Month-end close processes, and supporting the preparation of financial reports.Responsibilities Handle both Accounts Receivable and Payable tasks including processing and managing invoices, payments, and collections. Reconcile accounts to maintain accurate financial records and monitor and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Manage and track grant expenditures to ensure compliance with grant agreements. Prepare and submit timely and accurate financial reports for grant funders. Assist in budget preparation and monitoring for grant-funded projects. Perform month-end closing activities such as journal entries and account reconciliations. Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported. Prepare financial statements and reports as required. Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Support the finance team with audits and external reporting requirements. Provide financial analysis and insights to support organizational decision-making. Utilize skills in Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Auditing, Budget Processes, Government Grants, Microsoft Excel, and NetSuite. Requirements Minimum of 3 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably within a non-profit organization Proficiency in Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) management Experience in conducting financial audits Familiarity with budget planning and processes Knowledge and experience in managing government grants Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting Experience using NetSuite or similar financial management software Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is highly desirable Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team High level of integrity and trustworthiness in handling sensitive financial information Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines Knowledge of non-profit accounting principles and regulations is a plus.
