per year | Houston, TX, USA | Salary | Full Time Position Description Summary: APT Research is hiring a System Safety Engineer to support our Extravehicular Activity Services (xEVAS) development S&MA contract. This position is located in Houston, Texas in support of our commercial space operations. Applicants should have knowledge of S&MA disciplines, S&MA processes and internal/external program interfaces/interactions. Experience with hazard report generation and hazard tracking required. Experience preparing safety data packages that meet safety review panel criteria is required. Experience presenting hazard reports to Safety Review Panel is highly desired. The tasks include:

Support design reviews and requirements generation

Support system hazard analyses/ software safety analyses

Generate hazard reports and supporting documentation

Presentation to Safety Review Panel

Integrate and coordinate with internal S&MA disciplines and engineering/management

Requirements:

A minimum of 10 years of experience with a Bachelor's Degree, or 8 years with a Master's Degree in science, engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, aeronautics, safety or a closely related technical discipline.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate well with different levels of management, including presentation skills.

Ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environment and deliver high quality products on schedule.

Ability to resolve complex problems and develop innovation solutions.

Security Clearance Requirement:

Ability to obtain a Secret clearance if needed

Preferred Experience:

NASA Extravehicular Vehicle Activity (EVA) suits

NASA Programs, policy, requirements

NASA Safety Review Panel presentation experience

NASA Hazard Tracking Database experience

NASA IV&V experience

Work Environment:

Required work from Customer's Facility

Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication, both verbally and written

Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, management, and customers

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a workstation / desk

Ability to lift >15 lbs.

Other Essential Functions:

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgement

Work attire must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk / hazard to the employee or others

Must be able to work in an inclusive and communicative team environment (within both large and small teams), both internal employee's and with customers present

Travel Required:

Some travel may be required for reviews and technical meetings.
