Playschool is a small, play-based cooperative preschool. We are currently hiring for a newly created assistant teacher position. You will collaborate with the teacher and parent volunteers in providing a positive learning environment to support children’s learning and development. On average, you will spend two hours in class, and one hour out of class, logging observations, creating documentation, and meeting with the lead teacher and other committees.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about early childhood education, and have an educational background and/or experience working with children who have special needs. Must also be comfortable working within the volunteer-based, initiative-taking culture of a cooperative, and demonstrate patience and resiliency in working with young children.

Please note: Playschool plans to create this new position pending grant funding. We will find out on July 31st whether the grant has been awarded. In order to select a candidate by the start of school we are beginning the hiring process before that date. Hiring is contingent on grant award.

Minimum Job Requirements:

At least two years working with preschool age children in a classroom setting

Ability to read and write in English

Have a working knowledge of childhood development principles and best practices

Completed minimum online Child Care trainings, or ability to complete within one month of hire.

CPR/first aid certification, or ability to complete within one month of hire.

Preferred requirements:

College coursework in Child Development or Early Childhood Education

Knowledge of early intervention strategies and experience working with children with special needs

Bilingual or some Spanish language skills a plus

Classroom hours:

Classroom time will be 9:30am-11:30am, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Additionally, you will spend an average of three hours per week outside of class logging observations, creating documentation, and meeting with the lead teacher and other committees.
