New York Life is a relationship-based company and appreciates how both virtual and in-person interactions support our culture.This position is hybrid - Tuesday - Thursday in the New York Office and Monday and Friday work from home.The Foundation Program Officer supports the development, implementation, and management of the philanthropic funded grants, projects, and activities in partnership with the VP of the New York Life Foundation. This role explores possible grant opportunities, develops grant recommendations, coordinates grant activities, manages grantee partner relationships including engagement opportunities, and ensures that grant requirements are met in a timely manner. The Foundation Program Officer works closely with the organization’s leadership to ensure that grant-funded projects are properly implemented and managed. This role also provides support with managing the grants management system in partnership with the Operations team.Grants management
Manage the grant proposal and recommendation process in partnership with the VP of the New York Life Foundation.
Manage day-to-day activities for grant progress.
Research potential organizations/partnerships.
Perform an initial screen of funding request inquiries.
Review, evaluate and provide feedback on applications/proposals/inquiries.
Follow-up on proposals/inquiries.
Analyze grant requests and organizational/project budgets, including site visits and other due diligence as needed.
Communicate with grant applicants as needed during the submission and review process to ensure timely, accurate and complete budget and program information; and to keep grant applicants apprised of the review process and timeline as appropriate.
Draft funding recommendations.
Draft grant agreements, and other related grant communications.
Create dashboards, searches, reports, and other data analyses to support programmatic, financial, and operational decision-making.
Grant administrative management
Review, analyze and summarize progress and final grantee reports.
Monitor and manage active grants; review and track grantee requirements; and provide feedback and/or technical assistance to organizations as appropriate.
Provide regular “progress” updates on program work, proposal review and problematic grants.
Work in partnership with Grants team to improve and innovate processes and policies.
Provide data reporting and analysis for internal and external audiences.
Build and maintain strong relationships with grantees, providing guidance and support throughout partnerships.
Maintain, track, and resolve all matters related to the grants management system.
Use the grants management system to create new reports and to generate recurring reports for internal benchmarking and monitoring.
Provide overall support for the Foundation’s grantmaking and operations.
Represent the New York Life Foundation at meetings and conferences as requested.
Serve as a liaison between the Foundation and grantees, facilitating communication and addressing any issues that arise.
Manage the request for proposals programs
Work with funding partners to implement and execute two distinct RFP programs under the two philanthropic focus strategies: Grief Reach and Aim High.
Manage relationships with RFP lead partners.
Conduct due diligence on RFP respondents.
Draft RFP administrator grant recommendations.
Work with engagement team to connect grantees with local offices.
Strategic engagement support
Develop collaborative initiatives internally and externally to ensure maximum impact, integration, and alignment with our focus areas.
Support grant/philanthropic programmatic and administrative responsibilities including:
updating and reviewing progress reports and proposal templates and forms
reviewing, updating, and maintaining grant guidelines and annual fact sheets
coordinating with Corporate Communications to highlight grantees and initiatives for internal and external audiences.
supporting the relationship with grant management system vendor as needed
Participate in the overarching philanthropic and engagement strategies:
identify specific engagement activities for NYL workforce
work with team to implement engagement between NYL workforce and grantees
support the launch and maintenance of the Grief-Sensitive Schools Initiative “plus” program
Perform special assignments as needed.
Participate in broader department and NYL Foundation initiatives and act as a steward for the department with employees and agents.
Foundation Program Officer Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, business administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. At least 5 years of experience in grant management and/or philanthropy
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and grant-management software
Proficient in Excel for data manipulation, calculation, and visualization
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and work with deadlines while remaining flexible to respond to and manage the unexpected
Ability to work closely and collaboratively with others and independently as work requires.

Proven ability to listen, discern challenges, and identify solutions
