Position: Prep Cook

Job Functions: To prepare and promote fresh, high-quality food that meets the objectives for sales, margin, labor costs, and inventory turns. Provide prompt, friendly, and helpful customer service. Maintain and clean department and equipment. Foster a team environment while meeting department objectives.

Responsibilities:

PURCHASING

Receive orders following established procedures. Obtain credit from suppliers as needed.

MERCHANDISING

Help plan & prepare specials and menu items as directed with organic, all natural quality ingredients.

Help plan and maintain attractive, fully stocked, rotated and faced cases.

Report inaccurate department signs and correct as needed.

Provide product information to customers, staff and manager.

Ensure completion of catering or special orders.

Consistently check product quality.

DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE

Ensure freshness of items by rotating batches by date.

Pull old or low-quality items, then record and properly dispose of them following established procedures.

Maintain and clean counters, deli cases and prep areas and keep in sanitary and orderly condition following health department regulations.

Use equipment safely. Monitor cooler temperatures. Inform supervisor/ VP of Operations of equipment problems or needs.

Participate in inventory counts.

Participate in food cost and margin goals for department, as directed.

Ensure that department storage areas are kept clean and in orderly condition.

OTHER

Stay up to date food handling safety certificate and follow all food safety requirements.

Ensure you follow all food safety requirements.

Follow company policies and practice safety on the job.

Perform other tasks assigned by your Supervisor (Manager).

Propose new ideas for efficiency or products for the store. 


Qualifications:

Experience working in a professional kitchen, restaurant, culinary, catering or food service.

Dexterity with hazardous equipment.

Willingness and ability to learn and meet the changing demands of the job

Able to handle multiple demands and follow through on commitments

Experience serving the public with a friendly, outgoing personality.

Able to lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods.

Regular, predictable attendance.

Knowledge of the natural food industry.
