Prints USPS postage imprint on various sized mail pieces (letters, flats, parcels) of outgoing mail. Prepares incoming and outgoing mail for further sorting and distribution. Manually sorts incoming mail and periodicals to various Mayo Clinic buildings, departments, and delivery points. Packs incoming and intra-clinic mail into bags and/or totes for daily delivery (by General Service) to nearly 600 mail stops. Acquires and maintains knowledge of USPS rules and processes related to the preparation and delivery of mail. Utilizes Mayo and Mail Center equipment and software programs for internal operations. Responsible for the proper postal preparation of mail for delivery to the USPS. May be an assistant to the Sr. Mail Specialists (Sorter Operators) on the automated mail-sorting machine, acting as the “sweeper” employee who empties sorted mail from bins, ensures mail pieces are barcoded, places in the proper mail trays, prints labels, and prepares trays and pallets for delivery to the USPS. Performs maintenance, cleaning, and money transfers of postage metering machines as needed.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required. One year previous experience in a mail and document processing environment or similar required. Proficiency at understanding oral instructions, reading, math, and computer skills required. Ability to set priorities, meets deadlines, solve problems, and simultaneously manage multiple tasks. Ability to lift/move up to 75 pounds and also stand/walk for up to eight hours or more per shift. Train and mentor other mail-processing employees. Strong attention to detail is required. Work in a fast-paced environment subject to numerous deadlines, schedule changes, and shifting duties and priorities.
