POSITION:
Primary function: Oversees day-to-day retail wine department operations. Daily responsibilities include customer service, retail wine department sales, wine ordering, maintaining relationships with vendors/wine salespeople, wine sampling, inventory control and display management. Exceptional customer service skills and extensive product knowledge are a necessity. In addition, we require this position to have a dynamic ability to assist, when needed, with general store duties that could include cashier assistance, liquor, beer and other sales, stocking, and theft prevention. Thus, creating a positive, hospitable, and collaborative team environment each day.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General
Contributes to a positive and supportive work environment within 3rd Street Beverage.
Demonstrates an adaptable and flexible work style, shifting tasks as priorities and circumstances change.
Demonstrates ability to multi-task and manage your own time. Adjusts priorities and work efficiencies based on needs and conditions of department and 3rd Street Beverage as an entity.
Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as cooperatively within a team.
Demonstrates an active desire to learn more about the store’s products in and outside the wine section.
Performs as general back-up to other 3rd Street Beverage job duties (cashiering, handling products for customers, general stocking, etc.).
Customer Service
Assists customers with product selections. Shares product knowledge with customers. Makes recommendations and suggestions based on customer needs, not on personal preference.
Maintains approachability to new ideas and products when working with wine/outside vendors, distributors and other industry professionals.
Assists in engaging internal employees/coworkers, teaching them the basics of the wine department to help in assisting the customers outside of the wine department’s scheduled hours.
Engages the customer in a friendly manner and assists in locating products throughout the whole store. Seeks opportunities to exceed customer expectations and enhance the customer experience for 3rd Street Beverage as an entity.
Goes above and beyond for customer needs in and out of the wine section.
Position Specific Functions
Demonstrates excellent knowledge and familiarity with products in the wine department, including terminology, wine regions and styles, label organization, wine uses and pairings, and vendor/supplier information. Always maintaining the highest standards of external and internal customer service.
Orders wine department products and supplies according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs. Maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals.
Maintains accurate pricing and inventory, working within the store’s POS system.
Maintains signage that meets merchandising standards.
Build displays in and out of the wine department and arrange department products to make attractive presentations, highlighting featured/unique/seasonal items and other related products.
Works creatively with the general manager and the beer steward to build displays in other areas of the store where appropriate.
Ensures customer special orders are accurately placed and processed.
Stocks, rotates and faces products with attention to product varieties and value.
Ensures sales floor area is clean, attractive and easy to shop.
Continued learning and skill for selling products in and out of the wine section.
Qualifications and Experience
Previous retail or grocery buyer experience required.
Previous retail customer service or food service required.
Demonstrates product knowledge.
o Familiar with wine regions, styles, and producers.
o Familiar with wine production methods (i.e. how red wine is made vs white wine vs rosé, dessert wine, sparkling, etc.).
Skills to adapt to the shifting priorities and needs of a fast-paced retail environment.

Tuesday – Saturday (currently scheduled days TBD with candidate)
Holidays (Store is closed on Thanksgiving and on Christmas Day only)
Shift schedule: 9:00AM – 5:00PM

High school or equivalent
Wine certification or pursuing interest in wine certification (WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers (CMS), Society of Wine Educators (SWE), etc.) (Preferred)
