We are looking for an individual to help us support a 23-year-old male with special needs (cognitive and behavioral challenges). The goal is to get the young adult out and about doing fun outdoor activities in the community but keep him safe and help him follow social rules. Young adult is physically coordinated and capable, so activities will include swimming, walking, hiking, stand-up paddle boarding, biking, shooting hoops, kicking soccer ball, horse back riding, going to the zoo, going to the beach, and care of domestic and/or farm animals, etc. The ideal candidate for this job likes being outdoors in nature and doing physical activities and must be fit enough to keep up with young adult. The ideal candidate is also eager and willing to coach young adult to engage in purposeful, cooperative activities, such as engaging in household chores or contributing to the community. The ideal candidate also likes to read and learn, and is willing to engage the young adult in learning activities ranging from looking at books together or doing puzzles to playing simple card games like UNO or dominoes, or playing chess. Part of the time is to be spent out and about doing an activity, but the remainder of the time is keeping the young adult safe at home. Young adult fluctuates from being smiling and calm (looking at pictures in a book, soaking in the tub, listening to music) to being sporadically aggressive. Ideal candidate is not easily intimidated by a 6 feet tall young adult and feels competent stepping in and intervening if young adult becomes agitated.
