This work unit is responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance, modification and operation of the Campus’s heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and building automation systems (BAS) in academic buildings. Most of the Campus’s building HVAC systems or components are controlled and monitored by the BAS. The BAS is a computerized network of direct digital controls (DDC) that monitors and operates the HVAC systems.
This position will provide analysis, repair, maintenance and operational management of the HVAC and BAS systems within the University's academic buildings. This position is not required to upsell services or equipment.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be:
HVAC System Analysis and Repair
Perform journey level analysis and repair of HVAC Systems and associated equipment, including air handling units, VAV systems, VAV with reheats, dual duct systems, constant volume with reheats, labs with variable fume hood control, constant and variable flow heating and chilled water systems, Delta P valves, steam systems, chillers, flat plate cooling, cooling towers, boilers (steam and hot water), and process cooling water systems.
HVAC System Calibration and Commissioning
Commission, calibrate, and test all temperature control components within a building’s temperature control system to maintain efficient system performance and energy savings. This is performed on a defined cycle within existing buildings. May function as the lead when commissioning and calibrating new work installed by a contractor.
Building Automation Systems/Direct Digital Controls
Install, troubleshoot and repair all field devices of the DDC systems in a building including microprocessor based controllers, wireless controllers, signal conditioners, relays, sensors, thermostats and all related wiring. Responsible to change numeric values, understand basic system programming code and alarm criteria and to maintain a clear understanding of the BAS within a building.
Refrigeration/Chiller Maintenance and Operation
Maintain, repair, and operate chillers, split systems, cold rooms, computer room air conditioners and other related components and systems. Understand all operational and control sequences, follow trouble shooting sequences, and read related drawings and specifications. Be responsible for the recovery/reclamation of all refrigerants and oils per the EPA regulations and file accurate paperwork to track refrigerants.
Project support
Provide support for projects, which may include small remodel projects, renewal and replacement projects, large capital projects and other similar projects. May include reviewing project documents, reviewing outage notification requests, performing outages related to projects, performing quality assurance inspections, attending project walks, performing equipment start up and final commissioning of new project. These inspections are not code based, however, certain aspects of codes could be referenced during the inspection.
Paperwork, scheduling, and other duties
When closing work orders, include closing comments and ensure repair work orders are built. Complete material issues requests and purchase requests to procure material needed.
Actively participate in safety meetings. Follow all safety policies, procedures and guidelines, and enforce to Standard Operating Procedures for assignments and use of equipment. Participate in and complete all safety trainings. Report potential safety hazards, mistakes, accidents or procedural violations in a timely manner.
What You Should Know:
This full time, in-person positions work schedule is Monday - Friday from 7:30 am - 4:30 pm. May be required to work weekends, alternate or extended shifts based on department needs.

What We Can Offer:
The salary range for this role is $68,544 - $71,000 annually.
If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

What We Require:
Must be a Colorado Resident and have a valid Colorado driver's license to apply.
Three years of experience in HVAC and mechanical trades work, including experience with refrigeration technology. Appropriate education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
