Entry level marine technician

Yacht Performance Center is looking for an entry level marine technician. Prior automotive training and work experience would be a key asset. Are you a team player, can you take directions, follow orders, stay on task and work independently (once trained)? These latter skills are a must for this fast-paced but rewarding job that can lead into a well-paying career.

About us, we work on boats from faster cabin cruisers like Sea Ray’s with I/O (outdrives) or inboards, all boats/yachts with inboard engines and yachts with pod drives like Sabre, Tiara and larger Sea Ray’s. We also service small boats with outboard engines like Ranger Tugs and Jeanneau's.

A synopsis of the skills set asked of our technicians:

Hauling out a boat and pressure washing

Cleaning the facilities

Filling and dispensing of fluids properly

Documenting repairs and parts on work orders

Bringing to attention any possible additional repairs that may not be on the work order

Removing and replacing batteries

Servicing gas and diesel engines change: oil (engine & transmission), oil filters, fuel filters, crankcase filters, tune ups (gas engines), engine zincs and impellers.

General inspections checking coolant, belts and hoses

Servicing gas and diesel generators: see engine service above

Servicing outdrives change or replace: gear oil, gaskets and O-rings, anodes, grind, sand, clean, prime and repaint

Servicing outboard engines change: oil, oil filter, fuel filter, impeller and anodes

Maintain a clean, safe and organized work site both on and off a boat

Own a basic tool set of mechanic’s tools

Must be able to crawl, climb and stand for long periods of time plus able to lift up to 75 lbs.

Future skills you can learn:

Outdrive extensive repairs: gimbal bearings, bellows, oil seals and more

Checking shaft and rudder packing or shaft seals, props, shafts, struts and cutlass bearings

Troubleshooting and repairing windlasses, anchors, bow/stern thrusters, toilets (head), A/C and heater systems, plumbing, ABYC electrical work, inverters, exhaust and hydraulic systems

Installing electronics, isolation transformers, thrusters, remanufacturer engines and davit systems

Extensive troubleshooting and diagnostics techniques

Full-time position. Pay depends on experience –DOE.
