Job Description

Job Purpose: Ultimately responsible for the material handling activities in Fort Wayne facility.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the daily activities of the Materials department including shipping, receiving, support of production, inventory management, material handling equipment upkeep, and 5S activities
  • Operate material handling equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, etc. to move stock and organize inventory
  • Unload incoming shipments and confirm that received materials match packing slips and that items are undamaged
  • Stage and load outgoing shipments and confirm that outgoing materials match bill of lading
  • Audit outbound shipments for accuracy and maintain all shipping processes
  • Supply production area with needed materials from inventory based on work orders
  • Remove finished goods from production area and properly store
  • Perform other duties as required by production needs
  • Maintain KATA board and prepare daily outbound and inbound schedules
  • Utilize ERP software and ERP interfacing hand scanners to input data and export reports as necessary
  • Actively solicit and submit suggestions to develop and implement process improvements
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections on all handling equipment
  • Champion the area’s safety program and coordinate statutory training and compliance
  • Ensure activities meet with and integrate with organizational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care
  • Periodically evaluate staffing levels to ensure human resources are adequate and properly positioned to support current and future Material Handling requirements
  • Assist in the development and implementation of visual factory tools and continually monitor their effectiveness
  • Promote Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques in all manufacturing and administrative processes
  • Execute all responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards as established by company policies and procedures

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
  • Must be proficient in English, written and spoken
  • Must be certified and capable of driving a forklift (skills will be tested)
  • Must have experience with handheld inventory scanners
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must have above average math skills and the ability to use a calculator
  • Must have above average computer literacy and must be able to use a computerized inventory interface (skills will be tested)
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and demonstrated troubleshooting skills
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Supervisory experience strongly preferred
