Horse Caretaker

Hours: Afternoons, Tuesday – Thursday or Monday - Thursday

Small family horse farm seeking a reliable and responsible caretaker for afternoon feeding shifts. We are a small, no-drama barn with a high standard of horse care and a great team. Individual must be a self-starter and able to complete tasks without supervision. Feeding takes approximately 1 hour and should be completed between 3 pm and 5 pm. More hours could be available after a trial period.

Responsibilities:

Turn horses in/out.

Feed horses and clean waterers.

Maintain clean barn: sweep, vacuum, de-cobweb, and dust as needed.

Monitor the health and behavior of the horses during feeding.

Assist with general farm maintenance as needed (checking fence and waterers, picking up sticks, weeding etc.)

Communicate with farm manager about any concerns or observations.

Muck out run in sheds and occasional stall mucking.

Qualifications:

Experience working with horses is a must. Experience with thoroughbreds is a bonus.

Ability to walk for some distance on uneven terrain.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Reliable and dependable.

Have reliable transportation in all weather conditions.

Ability to work independently.

Follow directions and make judgement calls on horse health and safety when appropriate.

Ability to drive a UTV (John Deere Gator).

Strong work ethic and attention to detail.

Ability to communicate with the team and be a team player.

Compensation: Competitive Pay Based on Experience. We have a high standard of care and compensate accordingly.
