Hostess Job Description

Job Title: Hostess

Reports To: Restaurant Manager / Front of House Manager

Location: Union Kitchen and Tap Encinitas

Employment Type: Part-Time

Job Summary:

The Hostess is responsible for warmly welcoming and seating guests in a courteous and efficient manner. They manage the reservation system, ensure the dining area is properly prepared, and assist with customer inquiries. The Hostess works closely with the management team to ensure the smooth flow of service, contributing to an exceptional dining experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Greet Guests: Warmly greet guests upon arrival, making them feel welcome and comfortable.

Seating Guests: Escort guests to their table, providing menus, and introducing the server.

Manage Reservations: Handle reservations over the phone, online, or in person. Maintain an organized reservation system to optimize seating and minimize wait times.

Monitor Dining Area: Keep track of the status of tables (e.g., vacant, occupied, reserved), and coordinate with servers to manage the seating flow.

Assist with Waitlist: Inform guests about the approximate wait time if tables are not immediately available, and manage the waitlist efficiently.

Customer Service: Answer guest inquiries about the restaurant, menu, or special events. Address any immediate customer concerns or complaints with empathy and escalate as needed.

Prepare Dining Area: Ensure the dining area, including tables, chairs, and floors, is clean and well-presented before and during service hours.

Assist with Special Events: Help coordinate seating arrangements and guest flow during special events or busy periods.

Work as Part of a Team: Collaborate with servers, bartenders, and management to ensure the smooth operation of the dining service.

Maintain Professional Appearance: Present a well-groomed appearance and adhere to the restaurant’s dress code.

Qualifications:

Experience: Previous experience as a hostess, in customer service, or in the hospitality industry is preferred.

Skills:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Friendly and approachable demeanor.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift or move objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Environment:

Fast-paced restaurant environment.

Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
