Gardener/Laborer Wanted

Gardeners assistant starting in Fall 2024. We work 5 days a week on average (sometimes 3-5 days a week depending on weather) starting early September and continuing through the end of December 2024. If the season goes well, you may be asked back for the following year, which starts mid March 2025.

Currently, we are looking for someone who can work as a standard crew member, but we would ideally like this employee to be interested in growth within the company. We are expecting to need a new crew leader for the start of the 2025 season, and we are hoping to hire someone now that is able to grow into that role.

Professional experience with plants preferred, a strong interest in working outside and with plants is required. If you don't have gardening experience we've had some success with people who have restaurant, barista, or other service job experience - we usually work on two or three gardens each day so being able to move quickly is a must.

We meet at our headquarters in the Germantown area in the mornings and then work mostly in Center City and the surrounding neighborhoods. We are looking for someone who can follow directions well. Work involves planting and maintaining small gardens – annuals, perennials, small trees, shrubs. The ability to lift and carry 60 pounds is required, as is a valid driver's license. We have two small pickup trucks and driving them in the city is part of work every day.

You must be on time to work every day. Must be willing to work in all weather conditions. Must have a valid driver's license and a modern smartphone - we communicate heavily through apps and pictures. Helpful to have a car, though not required. Ability to identify weeds and pests and diseases is important. Business based in Germantown. We start our workers at $20 - 26/hour, depending on experience.
