Construction Field Engineer

Martel Construction, Inc. is actively seeking candidates to fill a construction field engineer role in our Missoula location. The ideal candidate will bridge the skill gap between a field engineer and an assistant superintendent, adept at executing the essential duties of both roles with a focus on hands-on site management, leadership, and meticulous attention to detail. Established in 1960, Martel Construction offers construction services from its offices in Bozeman, Bigfork, and Missoula, MT. Essential Job Functions:
On-Site Management and Leadership:
On-site coordination with the project manager and the superintendent on all project management functions.
Assist in management of the on-site construction team including Martel personnel, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Proactively plan for, support, and enforce safety policies and procedures
Assist in coordination of job site logistics and ensure organization and cleanliness are always maintained.
Assist with procurement of tools, equipment, personnel, and materials.
Monitor and ensure quality expectations are met or exceeded.
Other tasks as required including hands on field work if necessary to complete projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Project Oversight and Documentation:
Oversee the coordination and maintenance of project documentation.
Produce and assist in short-range and overall schedules.
Assist with design and constructability reviews.
Procure, submit, and track and process submittals and RFI’s and change orders.
Attend meetings, create, and distribute meeting agendas minutes.
Manage the storm water pollution prevention plans.
Guide project closeout.

Qualifications:
Strong background within the construction industry with previous field experience as a carpenter apprentice or carpenter is preferred.
A bachelor's degree in construction engineering or business is preferred, however, candidates without a degree may be considered if they have an equivalent amount of experience in the construction field.
An understanding of how to navigate and comprehend construction documents and specifications is preferred.
Competence with Bluebeam and AutoCad is preferred.
Must be an effective communicator.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must be able to operate typical office technology, such as a computer, copier, printer.
Experience in SWPPP management, record keeping, and document control.
Scheduling software knowledge is a bonus.
Working Conditions:
Work at construction job sites, during all stages, in all types of weather conditions.
Performing activities including climbing ladders and scaffolding, lifting & handling materials, walking & balancing, stooping.
Must be able to speak & hear detailed information through oral communication.
Must be able to see clearly and recognize small details.
8 hour shift with overtime as needed.
Compensation:
Compensation is competitive at $75,000+ annually.
