Promet Steel, a second-generation family-owned steel service center, is seeking Assistant Slitter Operator to join their team in Chicago, IL.
If you want to start your career or have experience operating a slitter, Promet Steel wants to hear from you! Previous experience operating or assisting on metal coil to coil slitter in a warehouse environment is a plus.

Primary Functions for Assistant Slitter Operator:
The Assistant Slitter Operator position requires commitment to becoming certified in the following area(s);
Basic Training - Employee
Slitter Assistant
Crane Operator
Forklift Operator
Rockwell Testing
Unwillingness or failure to become certified in the areas listed above, within three months, could result in being removed from the Assistant Slitter Operator position.
Must become a certified Slitter Operator within 12 months of being a certified Slitter Assistant, in order to operate the slitter in the absence of the Slitter Operator, in a productive manner to meet or exceed production objectives on a daily basis.
Commitment to learn all safety and operational policies and procedures and to operate within these guidelines.
Must be able to perform production checks utilizing a micrometer, caliper, tape measure and Rockwell Tester to ensure conformance to customers specifications.
Commitment to learn and understand all paperwork and documentation associated with the operation of the slitter.
Ability to identify steel finishes correctly and to notify operator of defects and quality issues during the processing of a coil.
Must communicate effectively with the Slitter Operator and Production Packaging Utility personnel in order to effectively maintain slitter synchronization.
Communicate timely and effectively with all employees, respective supervisor and the Operations Manager.
Performs building of over-arms and tension separator shafts as well as securing the scrap and setting rings.
Assists the Operator in the tear down and set up of the slitter head.
Loading and un-loading coils from the coil car and turn-styles.
Band and/or tape steel on the in-coiler or re-coiler in an efficient and safe manner.
Demonstrate good housekeeping by maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
This includes equipment and tooling.
